International move (off topic) #hungary

Margarita <uzidog@...>

Dear H-siggers:

Some of you already know that I'm leaving Argentina to move back to USA.
Because the date is nearing, I thought I should tell all of you that I will be
off-line for some weeks.
The computer will be packed at the beginning of November and I have no idea
when I will be able to connect it again once we arrive in Denver, Colorado.
My e-mail address will follow me, so no need to change it. :-)
I wish all of you a happy hunting.

Hello,

My mom is a holocaust survivor who lost her entire family in the war.
She had a massive stroke in May 1997.

The only pictures of my mom and her family were sent to her aunt Rivel
AMLUSKI SUTAN (sp?) in New York >from Vilna.

Rivel and her husband had a daughter named Chipa. Chipa married Avram
WEINER (sp?) a bookeeper in New York circa 1920. Chipa and Avram had a son
named Hessel born circa 1925.

My mom has spoken about those photos of her family often. I would love
to locate this family and hopefully the photos for my mom. It would mean so
much to her (not to mention me, as I've never seen pictures of my
grandparents, aunt or mom).

There are a gazillion people named WEINER in the world, most seem to
be in New York.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to locate this family and the
photos,
please let me know. I would be very grateful for any info or leads.

Thanks,

Dear Friends,

We would like to inform you of a large-scale Internet campaign on behalf
of Israel's missing-in-action navigator Ron Arad.

Arad's plane was shot down over Lebanon and he was taken prisoner by the
Lebanese Shiite militia Amal on October 16, 1986. His captors released a
videotape of him but denied Arad any of the privileges accorded to all
Prisoners of War and barred the Red Cross >from visiting him. In 1988 it
is believed that Arad was "sold" for $300,000 to an Iranian group in
Lebanon which is closely tied to Hizbullah and the Iranian Revolutionary
Guard. Ron Arad has been held for over 2,600 days.

Below is a press release >from the Fellowship for Ron Arad's Release,
organizers of the petition. Please forward this message to anyone who may
be interested or concerned about this pressing humanitarian issue.

Press Release

ISRAELI HOSTAGE NAVIGATOR RON ARAD OVER 12 YEARS IN CAPTIVITY

First Internet Campaign of its Kind

The Fellowship for Ron Arad's Release, in cooperation with "Netvision" and "Teletel Communications Channels" companies, is launching an Internet
campaign, first of its kind on the net, marking the 12th anniversary or
Ron Arad in captivity.

The campaign is being announced on banners on the main Internet search
engines, clicking which links the surfer directly to the Ron Arad Internet
site.

Address of the site:
http://www.ron-arad.org.il

The Internet campaign is directed at surfers in Israel and throughout the
world, asking them to sign (first name, family name and country) during
the weekend of Friday-Saturday, October 16-17, 1998, an electronic
petition calling for the immediate release of Ron Arad.

The petition will be printed Saturday evening on the Fellowship stationery. At 10:00 a.m. on Sunday (18th Oct. 98) it will be delivered
via the World Courier company, which specializes in fast overnight courier
services overseas and to the Third World countries, directly to the
President of Iran, Mohammad Khattami, at his Teheran residence.

A Press Conference will be held at the Fellowship's offices in Tel Aviv,
105 Hasmonaim St. on Thursday, 15th October 1998, at 09:30 a.m., and will
be attended by the Arad family.

In addition, the Fellowship has produced a new and updated Information
Brochure, telling Ron's story accompanied by photographs, among these the
last sign of life >from captivity.

The text of the brochure is in English, French and Arabic, with
translations into Spanish, German, Russian and Hebrew. Tens of thousands
of brochures are being currently distributed to influential people such as
presidents, prime ministers, diplomats, the international business
community and other leaders throughout the world. In the accompanying
letter the Fellowship is requesting every recipient to raise the issue of
Ron Arad in order to achieve a worldwide effect.

"This is the first and unprecedented campaign of this type whose object is
to place the release of Ron Arad at the top of the international agenda "
says Yoske Harari, chairman of the Fellowship for Ron Arad's Release. "All
of us hope that the petition with all its signatories will reach in
Teheran those who will help return Ron home."

anyway we can search for family burried there without actually being in

georges.graner@lpma.u-psud.fr <Georges.Graner@...>

Dear H-siggers,
In a recent message, Randy Weiss asks what is a "hold". As far as I
know, it is close to the english "acre" or the french "arpent", i.e.
circa 0.40 or 0.42 hectares. Therefore 120 holds should be close to 50 ha.

I didn't see the initial thread but if somebody is looking for the name
'Hanus', here is a clue: this is the Czech pet form for John. Variants are
Hanusek, Hanek and Nusek. The "s" in Hanus has the mekchen accent on it
(inverted circumflex)

Also, there is another Hanusovce in Slovakia, namely Hanusovce nad Toplou.

awhile back I remember the town of Hanus falva being mentioned, I have
the name "Hanus" on the Slovak side of my family and am interested in
any and all information,
Debora -

I posted the original inquiry because the town Hanus falva turned up as
the birthplace in 1809 of my ggggf, Moses Huebschman. I received
various suggestions as to the current name, but the one I think is
correct is now Spisske Hanusovce -- largely because it is so close to
Circ, Slovakia, where Moses and his children and grandchildren lived.
The latter emigrated to Cleveland about 1883. Helpful?

Dear all,

I went further in exploring the link pointed by Margarita and found that it
belongs to a larger site sponsored by the Polish State Archives. The URL

those Polish archives. The site is very messy to navigate but it might be
