Searching the Family Tree of the Jewish People #general

Harold Zvi Rabbie <hzrabbie@...>

I just visited the FTJP web search engine, and I'm impressed! This is
going to be a really great tool.

Can I make a suggestion for an improvement? Along with the listings of the
person's name and date of birth, is it possible for the results page to
show also the submitter's ID number? It would be a lot easier to
consolidate requests for information that way.

1919 Pogram Victim List? #general

Milton Blackstone <milton@...>

Having recently seen several references to the 1919 Pograms, led me to
wonder if any listings of victims exist, as well as other information
i.e. locations, dates, etc. I have been trying learn if my GF, whose
tombstone cites his death as 9 March 1919, might have been as a result
of a pogram.

I'd also be grateful for any literary references I might peruse if such
information exists.

Kaim (Chaim) ,Kurnick (Kurnik), Prussia now Kornik, Poland #general

Barbara L. Sieving <Sieving@...>

I am looking for information on the following family.

Mendel Kaim (fifth born of Mordicai and Gitel) who married Dora Fox
They had eight children:
1. Julia Kaim (deceased, no other data)
2. Deborah Kaim (unmarried)
3. Max Kaim (married spouse unknown) and had 2 children
1. Gertrude Kaim
2. Gabriel Kaim
4. Nettie Kaim (deceased, no other data)
5. Fannie Kaim (married, spouse unknown-no progeny)
6. Mamie Kaim (married, spouse unknown-had 2 children, names =unknown)
7. Harry Kaim (married, spouse unknown-had 1 child, name unknown)
8. Annie Kaim (married, spouse unknown-had 2 children, names (unknown)

The line I come >from was the first-born of Mordecai and Gitel and he
(Solomon-my ggggrandfather) was born about 1820 in Kurnick...I figure
the fifth born (Mendel) was probably born between 1825-1830 (there are
10 total). As per my ggrandmother and grandmother who put this original
tree together in December 1921, the tribe of Mendel settled in England
and the above information is all that the family knew in 1921. Because
of the early dates and the unknown information the Mendel Kaim family
probably either left before all the children were born or they were old
enough to marry. My questions on how to track someone who went to
England:
1. Does England have passenger lists of immigrants who entered their
country?
2. Does England have census records that someone in the US can access
and are they indexed in such a way that I do not need to know where they
settled?
3. Can I access and index death or birth vitals for England?
4. Would their surnames have changed upon their arrival to England,
how did the English feel about Jews in the early 1800's?
5. How can I find out if they became British citizens?
6. Can I find a marriage certificate?

Lot's of questions.....I have looked at a few sites geared towards
England but I have found very little information. Any assistance would
be greatly appreciated.

Searching RUBINSTEIN/ZAK/BURSTEIN/MILNER of Vilna #general

Seflaum@...

I am eagerly searching for a missing branch of my family. There are only 3
known family members of the RUBINSTEIN/ZAK/BURSTEIN/MILNER family who survived
the Holocaust. My greatgrandfather's daughter by his first wife was Chana (or
Anna) RUBINSTEIN, who left Vilna at ~age 16-18 yrs. and immigrated to the U.S.
prior to WWI (~1912 -1917). I am attempting to complete a family tree and find
Chana and her family.

Mendel RUBINSTEIN (had a brother and sister?):
with 1st wife, had daughter Chana RUBINSTEIN
with 2nd wife, Chaya Raiza KOWARSKI (2 brothers?), had four children: Frieda
(married to Mr. MILNER-2 children), Ella (or "Elke", married to Lipman ZAK-2
children), Aba (married to Sonia-2 children) and Fania.

Contact was lost with Chana RUBINSTEIN after she left Vilna. Mendel died
before WWI or WWII. Chaya Raiza KOWARSKI RUBINSTEIN and all of her children
and grandchildren (except two) were killed in the Holocaust.

Itzchak ZAK was married to Hadas Judis and owned a crystal and lamp shop in
Vilna.
Their six children were: Yosef, Frieda (married to Mr. BURSTEIN-4 children),
Mayer, Lipman, Golda and Leibe. Yosef was a theatrical director, Leibe was a
travelling salesman, and Lipman had a fruit store. One of Frieda's sons
survived the Holocaust.

I would be very grateful to hear >from anyone to whom this sounds remotely
familiar.

Shalom,

I have written(snail-mail) to the Mishkin T'Phila Temple in Chestnut
Hill, Newton, Mass for more information concerning my maternal
grandfather Hyman ARONSON who was active in the congregation when it was
in Roxbury on Blue Hill Ave opposite Franklin Park. I have not received
any answer >from them, but I cannot beleive that they would not have any
information concerning previous congregation members. Is there a genner
that belongs to that congregation that can advise to whom to write for
more information.

We were over at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City and found
the following information:

her final destination was to her Uncle Sam Goldman at 1432 Halsted St.,
Chicago

Also

Leib Chait - >from Kremenetz
Arrived in the U.S. on 2/25/1897 and his final destination was to his
brother A. Goldman at 714 S. 3rd Street in Philadelphia

Here we have two very similar names, CHAYET/CHAIT and both from

Sam & Charlotte <samchar@...>

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada-West will be holding its
regular meeting at 1:00 PM on August 16th at the Sahara West Library,
9600 West Sahara in Las Vegas.

The program scheduled for this meeting will be on "Genealogical
Correspondence" and has received a tremendous response >from individuals
who are interested in researching their histories, but have been
uncertain how to begin. Another reason for the interest, has been our
highly successful Mentor Program which eases the way for newcomers to
genealogy by assigning a more experienced member to work with them on a
one-on-one basis.

All visitors are welcome to attend. Just call 702-363-8230 during the
day, or 702-871-9773 after 6PM for more information. Information on the

Does the JRI-Poland database include those areas of Poland today which were
