The announcement that Gary Mokotoff will be in Las Vegas to present a
lecture on "Tracing Your Jewish Family Roots", has elicited a tremendous response, and we have just been advised that the Las Vegas Clark County Library District will act as a co-sponsor of the event. The talk will be on October 19, 1998 at 7:30 PM, and tentative plans have been made for the program to be presented at the Sahara West Library, 9600 West Sahara, Las Vegas. The facility there has theater type seating and will accommodate 200 people. We will advise everyone of the final details as soon as they are worked out. JGS Southern Nevada-West C. My ggrandfather was Solomon SIMON, he came to the US in the late 1800'sShlomo Zalman is a very common first+middle name combination. The first name is Hebrew, and the second is a Yiddish/German translation of it (both referring to "Solomon" in this case). Robert Israel Vancouver, BC, Canada

As a Juno user (and it has it's limits), when there is something I know I
would like to refer to (perhaps months >from now) I go to REPLY, highlight the lines to be deleted, trim the text down to the essentials and print it using LANDSCAPE mode. I usually can get two messages on a single sheet. Then into the appropriate file. Won't work for everyone, but works for me. Joan Brown, Virginia

I suppose this is not related to genealogy but does someone have a list of
the 40 or so people murdered in 1946 when they came back to Warsaw to see if any family survived? David Price

I guess what it means is that do not limit yourself only to available GOMEL records, but check the available records, indexes (indices?) for the other cities as well. For instance, we were looking for VYSKOTSKY in Bobruisk, where we knew my ggf's brother had married (coming >from Mogilev). Haven't been able to find any VYSKOTSKY in Bobruisk (yet), but Vitaly Charny has found one in Minsk! It is enough of a rare name to make us investigate. Our Mogilev TALALAY also had a branch in Baranovich as well, so they were really spreading out pre-1941. While I didn't find any MUREINIK in Mogilev, I did find several MIREINA (Leiba, Evel, Leiba,), a MOREINA (Shloma-Gilel) in the Mogilev Birth Index. Perhaps some alternate spellings to help in checking other records. Good luck. It is probably not overkill to repeat that when checking old records one must be flexible in spelling. At different times, with different people doing the recording, with whims and fashions, etc. different forms of names are recorded for the same person (both family and given names). Sometimes only one form of a first name is given, other times the patrynomic is given, sometimes the nickname is recorded. Be flexible! Schelly Dardashti dardasht@ix.netcom.com

I just visited a wonderful site--the shtetl Nesvizh site. I looked at the
names in the index of their Yizkor book. It was free of charge. Linda Cohen cohentalk@aol.com MichiganUSA MODERATOR'S NOTE: You can reach the Nesvizh pages by going to the Belarus SIG Web Site: <http://www.jewishgen.org/belarus/>. Click on Minsk Gubernia and then scroll down till you see the shtetl of Nesvizh. Click on it. There is more than one way to reach different web sites. You could also reach the Nesvizh site by going to the JewishGen home page and clicking on Shtetlinks. While you are looking at the Nesvizh pages, check out some of the other shtels we have linked on the Belarus SIG pages. If you don't see your shtetl, considering creating a web page.
