should have known who his grandfather was even if no one of my generation can
find any facts. The problem is that Rabbi Samuel was very prominent and any
official information published on him does not have my great grandfather David
Chaim listed as a son. Very confusing. I really would like to find the link
because Rabbi Sam has a family tree of ancestors that would make my search for
a family tree much easier. But first I have to find David Chaim born around
1850 something. ALSO there are lots of Molivers in the US who claim Rabbi
Samuel as a great great grandfather and cannot prove it either. Could he have
been hiding an entire family. I do know one thing David Chaim was married
twice and my grandfathers half sister did marry into the Grenadier family of
David Gorodok. Quite by accident I found the Grenadiers of NY and they are
related and now part of our family. One fortunate find.

"furrier" and "hat maker" in Yiddish. It probably referred to one who made
fur hats. Otherwise, a "hat maker" is "hitl-makher."

I am working on my husband's mother's family. The 1910 Census
lists the family "DICKINS" in Providence. HARRY arrived first
and according to the census, in 1898. The name was eventually
spelled as DICKENS and shows up as such in the 1920 Census.

My next step was to find just HARRY in 1900. The rest of the
family came in 1903, except for his oldest daughter who came
in sometime after Harry and before everyone else. She's our
line, but as she may be with Harry in 1900 I figured I'd work
through him. I know she came with an aunt, Leo & Ruchel
WINOGRAD into Castle Island, she was only 14 and had such a
hard time she refused to return.

Now to my problem. I looked through the 1900 Census and can
not find a single Russian in the entire soiundex category,
only English and Irish.

We know the name was probably DICKEE in Russia, BUT
Can anyone tell me what the RUSSIAN SPELLING might have been for
DICKEE??

I am thinking that I will have to work >from that Soundex. He might
not have "anglecized" the name yet!!??

Any ideas or suggestions??

Hello all. I am an amateur genealogist doing some research on my family
tree. I am trying to locate a branch of my family by the family name of
"ROSENFELD". My grandfather (when he was alive) had spoken of a cousin of
his who helped sponsor him so he could immigrate to Canada. Below is the
information I have.

My grandfather: Sam (Tzudik) Budman, born approx 1903 in Pavoloch, (in the
Zhitomir region) in the Ukraine. He immigrated to Canada in 1927 with the
help of a B. Rosenfeld (Tzudik's uncle) who was living (according to a
letter I found) at 543 Vinnan St. in Hamilton, Ontario. Another individual
who helped was a B. (or D) Belapolsky, also of Hamilton.

The following is what I have found through research (and might not
necessarily be 100% correct):

I believe B. Rosenfeld was Benjamin Rosenfeld who was married to Martha.
There is also a Max Rosenfeld, and Jack Rosenfeld (which I think were the
sons of Ben and Martha).

Jack married Mary, and at one point they were living at 41 Kipling in
Hamilton.

Max lived at 107 Rossylyn Ave N in Hamilton and had a business called
Polan's Food Market.

My grandfather (Tzudik) had mentioned that we had relatives by the name of
Polan living in Hamilton.
