Searching: FACK
#general
news.uunet.be <patindy@...>
Dear JGenners,
Just joined these newsgroup, since I'm searching my roots. Does anyone knows any jewish people with the name "FACK" ? We (my father and I) suspect our ancestors were jewish, nonetheless we have no sure evidences for this. So since several weeks I'm searching the net, hoping to find out more about my name or ancestors. Any help or advice for searching is welcome. Thank you ! Rotterdam area search

Rene <106141.360@...>
Dear readers,
Most of us do a name search and make use of the JGFF. My names are mainly Del VALLE and Van DAELEN ( same in Dutch) I know this world is not perfect at all and some of us forget to mention locations like towns etc. in this very useful database. My "area" of interest is Rotterdam and I have many jewish names which might interest you. My suggestion is to send me a message with your Rotterdam connection and I will send you my Rotterdam names. This could lead to something ( always optimistic). We could make this "genealogical" world a better place ! Rene van Wijngaarden/Etten-Leur/Nederland

UK refugee list question

james gross <larklane@...>
Hello,
I found inquiries for missing relatives published in the (UK) Jewish Chronicle. The dates are 10/2/25, 4/21/22, and 3/10/22. Most if not all the searches are >from people in Russia, like Riga and Odessa.I was not looking for things during this period and just happened to come across it by accident. Question: Does anyone know why there missing relative ads during this time period. And, can anyone venture as to what dates a researcher would tend to find MORE ads? James H. Help Needed: Translation of Tombstone
#general
Morton & Esther Cohen <cohe176@...>
My thanks to all of helpful people who offered advice on how to improve the
contrast of the photos I took of my mgf's tombstone. Scanning turned out not to be a solution in this case because of the speckled granite and the shallow cutting of the inscription. I was able to more legible darker print made >from which I can identify most of the inscription lettering. My very limited Hebrew knowledge is also very rusty. While I can piece together some of the inscription I feel some important parts are missing and I am hoping that someone on JewishGen will be able to translate the inscription. The Calendar info on JewishGen confirms that the my gf's death after sundown Aug 1, 1903 was Tisha B'Av Whay I have is: Line 1: Eyen Lamed space Aleph Lamed (Chaff or Chet?) space Alef Nun Yud space Bet Yud Chaff Yud Mem Line 2: Eyen lamed space Pey Teth Yud Rash Bet space Mem Ayen Lamed Yud space Vov Aleph Beth Yud Gimel Nun space Mem Lamed Chaff Line 3: Mem Nun Het Mem (Menachem) Mem Eyen Nun Daled Lamed (Mendel) Bet Nun (Son) space Shin Nun Yud Aleph ( Ayen or Nun Yud or Vov Yud) Yud space Zain Lamed Mem Nun (Zalman) Line 4: Shin space?
