The notations next to each women's name on the passenger list could tie
into the numbers on their application for citizenship papers. This was the
case for my father and other relatives who at some time after immigration
applied for citizenship. As part of the process legal entry into the US was
confirmed and a notation entered on the ship manifest using the application
papers number. You can now use this number to request the application
papers filed by your ancestor. Good hunting.

Searching CARR, ZOLOTKOFF in Chicago, New York #general

Roy Ogus <ogus@...>

This is an update to a previous posting I made a few months about this
family, since I have now learned some more information about them, that
may lead to some new connections.

I am trying to make contact with any descendents of a ZOLOTKOFF family
who lived in Chicago around the turn of the century through about the
1920's. I believe that this family may be related to one of the
branches of my family.

Leon ZOLOTKOFF was a prominent Chicago Jew who arrived in Chicago
around 1887. I believe that he was born in Lithuania. He married a
Fannie OGUS in 1892, and I assume that Fannie and her family were thus
living in the city when she met Leon. Leon and Fannie had 5 children:
2 daughters, Julia and Dina, and 3 sons, Sydney, Hyman, and Albert
Hertzl. The children were born during the period 1894 through 1902.

I know that Leon was still living in Chicago in about 1924, but don't
have any information as to when or when Leon died.

I'm particularly interested in learning more about Fannie's family,
since I believe that they may be related to my OGUS branch.

I believe that at least two of the sons (Albert and Sydney), and
possibly the other children, and even Fannie, eventually changed their
surname to CARR. I also understood that the family moved to New York
City at some point.

One of the sons, Albert ZOLOTKOFF changed his name to Albert H.
Zolotkoff CARR, and became a well-known writer, the author of several
books. He died in NYC in 1971.

The other son, Sydney, changed his name to Stanley CARR, and was a
critic for the New York Times. He also had a time slot on WQXR the New
York Times radio station in Manhattan. I'm not sure what he was a
critic of, but it may have been travel.

I'd be interested if anyone has any information that could help me make
contact with the descendents of Leon ZOLOTKOFF's children.

Thanks for any help!

Dear JewishGenners:
I am attempting to locate any family members of Bluma WOLK/VOLK/
FOLK (born in 1905) in (most likely) Poland. She lived in the town of
Hrubieszow, a bit south of Lublin. Little is known of Bluma, other than
the fact that she had one brother. Her brother had a wife named Pessia
(Peshia) Wolk/Volk/Folk, who also lived in Hrubieszow. Meanwhile,
Bluma married and had children of her own. In 1944, herself and her
daughter Sala were thrown in the Baltic Sea (off the coast of the
Stutthof Concentration Camp) and left to drown. Please help. Thanks.

Dear JewishGenners:
I am seeking information on the FUKS family of Zamosc, Poland.
As far as I know, my own ancestor is the only family member who
survived the war, but there is always a probability that, before the
war, family members emigrated to other parts of the world. If that
was the case, perhaps the name would have been changed to the
german FUCHS or the america FOX. Nevertheless, I would enjoy to
find anyone related to this family in Internet-land. Thank you!
