Judy Holiday #general

Kohanski, Dorothy D. <dkohanski@...>

Hi.
Dan Kravitz is correct - Judy Holliday's real last name was TUVIM. Her
parents were very active Zionists. I worked with her father for a short
time (I think his name was Abe) on the committee for the celebration at
the New Yorker Hotel when Israel became a state. Her mother, a convert
to Judaism (unless my memory fails me -- which could happen!) was a
board member of National Hadassah in NYC, and probably the archives of
Hadassah could tell you more.

Re: Social Security Inquiries #general

Lynn,

Consider yourself lucky, mine typically take 2-3 months. Perhaps my request
for 10-15 at a time has something to do with it!

Istvan PARTOS (Szeged, Hungary) #general

Jacques Sussmann <jacques@...>

I am searching, on behalf of Erika FEDER (nee PARTOS), now living in
Melbourne, Australia, for information on her paternal genealogy.

Her father was Istvan PARTOS, born in Szeged (Hungary) in 1903. He
graduated >from law school with a degree in law, but did not practice. He
owned an exclusive clothing business by the name of FISCHER & PARTOS, in
Karasz Street, Szeged. He married Frida WEIS (Erika's mother), in Szeged,
and the couple had 2 children: Ivan PARTOS (died young), and Erika PARTOS
(now FEDER). Istvan died in 1942 in the battle of Starioski (Russia).

Her gf: Lajos PARTOS, was a jeweller in Szeged and was married to Erika's
gm: (Anna ?)
They had 3 children: Istvan PARTOS (Erika's father), Imre PARTOS and Bela
PARTOS.

Erika thinks that at some stage (before her gf.), the family name could
have been POLLAK. She does not know how, when or why the name was changed.

Does anyone have information that would help in our search?

I wish a Good Yom Tov and well over the Fast, to all JewishGenners.

Shimon PERES genealogy #general

Cheryl Hoover <crhoover@...>

In searching my family background, I found that we are somehow related
to Shimon PERES. I would like to know if anyone knows anything about
the genealogy of Shimon Peres. I feel very honored to be a descendant
of such a wonderful man!
There is also a story that somewhere in the line Vilna Goan fits in,
although this has not yet been proven.
Please let me know if anyone has any information in regard to this.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Hoover

Harold J. Drabkin <hdrabkin@...>

I am trying to trace information about my father, John Harold Drabkin
(d1965); his family lived in New Haven (sisters Belle (sp?) and Cecel
(sp?). He was probably not born in this country; I have no records,
and was estranged to his family. Have contacted SS about any records
and am waiting reply, but they will not go back far enough. Anyone out
there have any ideas, information, etc.

Searching: Max Bartfeld, Leipzig (1901) #general

martin b mannlein <matthewm@...>

Looking for information on a Max Bartfeld, DOB 4 18-1901, born in
Leipzig.

He was a superb athlete, a member of the Bar Kochba sports organization
of Leipzig, and competed in decathlons, high jump, and soccer.

I am looking for news articles or other such info. My cousin's dad once
had a book with a "yellow paper cover" about the Bar Kochba organization.

Ideas anyone?
