Dear Margarita, as I promised to you, I started to find out any name I
could find bound together with the town of Beregsas. I have to make a
correction: the names in my book are 3906. After that I can tell you in
the first 600 names I checked town of Beregsas never shows up.
In the mean time I give you some details concerning this book, in the
hope that anybody reading these lines can give some more info about it.

Perhaps I did not get the message that explained what this book is.
However, since it has so many names, I would like to know what it is all
about, how it is organized, and what the names relate to. Is it a yizkor
book of some sort????

Thanks, Debbi

I'm not sure that this will make you feel any better, but as I
understand it, the Mormons only deal with the State Archives in
Slovakia. Therefore, if the record books that interest you were not
filmed by the Mormons, that means that they were not in the State
Archives. They could be in a regional archive, or in the town itself and
never transferred.

To add to the discussion re: Henry's topic of Lipto St. Miklos: perhaps
there was never a separate register for this locale? Instead, a nearby
larger community may have registered births, marriages, and deaths. As a=

Dear Linda,

My experience working with Hungarian metrical records seems to contradict
the
above thesis: if a village was too small to have a anyakonyvvezeto rabbi,
rabbi in
charge of metrinomical records, then the district rabbinate would keep the
records.
I have met with many instances of this practice. Does anybody met with

To Susanna and others

I hope , you are adding these family trees you are posting to AJGS's
Family Tree of The Jewish People. While I am researching four lines, I
have thousands of surnames in collatoral lines (including Weisz and
Weiss) and here is where the benefit lies. It is a lot of messeges in a
lot of bottles, as submissions are for prior and subsequent matches. As
the FTJP grows it will become as indispensible resource as the AJGS
Cemetery project's data.

To add to the discussion re: Henry's topic of Lipto St. Miklos: perhaps
there was never a separate register for this locale? Instead, a nearby
larger community may have registered births, marriages, and deaths. As a=
n
example, I have found dozens of such events for Ferto" Szt. Miklos in the=

registers of the Deutschkreutz community.

Hello

If anyone wants to get a passenger list soundex search or a passenger list
retrieval, email me and I will give you a company name to contact by phone
with a toll free number to get such searches done. They also do census
searches and other searches as well. I ask for email so I can see how many
people want this done. I do not make a commision.

Thank you.

Is there anyone else left out there who wants to order the book by
Raphael Patai "The Jews of Hungary; History, Culture, Psychology"
(1996). Louis can order it >from the publisher for $33 plus
postage, but he needs a minimum of 5 orders.

I am particularly interested in anyone else >from Australia ordering

To Henry and other: I have heard and read numerous times that if
no
Jewish records exist for a town, try the church records. For whatever

I am sure others will know why. Sorry, I do not.

Dear Linda,

My experience working with Hungarian metrical records seems to contradict
the
above thesis: if a village was too small to have a anyakonyvvezeto rabbi,
rabbi in
charge of metrinomical records, then the district rabbinate would keep the
records.
I have met with many instances of this practice. Does anybody met with
different
practice?

To Susanna and others

I hope , you are adding these family trees you are posting to AJGS's
Family Tree of The Jewish People. While I am researching four lines, I
have thousands of surnames in collatoral lines (including Weisz and
Weiss) and here is where the benefit lies. It is a lot of messeges in a
lot of bottles, as submissions are for prior and subsequent matches. As
the FTJP grows it will become as indispensible resource as the AJGS
Cemetery project's data.

Book TE VAGY A TANU! #hungary

Stefano Groszy <steven@...>

Dear Margarita, as I promised to you, I started to find out any name I
could find bound together with the town of Beregsas. I have to make a
correction: the names in my book are 3906. After that I can tell you in
the first 600 names I checked town of Beregsas never shows up.
In the mean time I give you some details concerning this book, in the
hope that anybody reading these lines can give some more info about it.
Title: TE VAGY A TANU!(ukrajnat=F2l auschwitzig), published by Kossuth KK=

in 1947. Unfortunately I don't speak hungarian and before the 3900 names
there are 210 text pages. In the next days I'll finish the Beregsas
check. Ciao, Steven.

*Re: Lipto registers and Mormon records #hungary

Tom Venetianer <tom.vene@...>

Dear all,

This is indeed an interesting approach to the search I have been conducting
for 3 years *without any results*. However back in the 18th and 19th
centuries, Liptovsky Mikulas had one of the largest Jewish populations in
Slovakia, being a reputable center of Torah studies. As a matter of fact,
several of my ancestors were such researchers and scholars. Still, I will
try to investigate further to see if the registers for this county are
stored somewhere else or the LDS keeps them under a different town. I did
ordered the Christian films to check the assumption that maybe Jewish
registers were done by a non-Jewish notary - quite unlikely, still worth a
try.

Thanks to all and let me take the opportunity to invite all those who are
investigating Lipto megye (county) to join me in this search.

regards to all
Tom

PS: I seem to have the same problem others mentioned, namely I am not
receiving my own mails sent to H-sig.
