Who is Ernst Gottlieb
#general
Mitchell J. Block <m.block@...>
In looking through my family's old photo album, family name BLOCK, there
are two photos of a youn man, probably 18-20 years old taken in Holland around 1938. Judging by the large buildings in the background, I assume the picture was taken in a city. The inscription says Ernst GOTTLIEB, but that is all. My father, who was a young boy at the time, has no idea who this is. There is no one else to ask. I would be happy to send a photocopy of this picture to anyone who may think they know who this is. I assume he was related in some way.

BIRGER/BERGER from Kupishok

Thanks to the incredible work accomplished by Ann Rabinowitz and others
associated with the Kupishok SIG, within the past week or so my "family tree" has moved "back" about 125 years as we have added confirmed identities of my GGGGF, GGGF, GGU, and GGA (and some of their families and descendants). We have already linked up, via Internet, with a few formerly unknown cousins in Israel and South Africa. To put it mildly, it has been an exciting few days. If you have BIRGER antecedents >from Kupishok Lithuania, please let me know and we will see how we may all interrelate (excuse the pun). Mike Berger smberg@erols.com Vienna, Virginia

searching STEINROJT sisters in Argentina
#general
ALAIN SILBERSTEIN CREATIONS <asc@...>
Dear JewishGenners,
I am looking for years to the part of my family who escaped >from the Shoa emigrating to Argentina in the 20's. The father was Yinkel STEINROJT. He lived in Warszawa. He was the brother of my grand-mother. All the family perished in the Shoa except his 4 daughters who were living in Argentina: - TSIPORA emigrated to Argentina in 1920-22 - X in 1920-22 - PERLA in 1930; married with a doctor in Argentina - X in 1933 The lonely way to trace them and their families is to consult police records which are ordered by maiden last name. I may need the assistance of a private detective for such inquiry. Does anyone already make a similar research in Argentina ? Any suggestions and advice would be helpful. Thanks. Alain Silberstein Besancon, France

Bircza Region Pre-1941 Surnames
#general
David Gershon Leventhal <David_Gershon@...>
Hello all,
In my work on the Bircza Online! 'virtual shtetl', I have decided to create a Pre-1941 'Phone Book' of Bircza Region residents. This is simply a listing of names of people in the Bircza Area, who were living there around June 1941, when the Germans invaded. And so I ask anyone researching the Bircza Area to contact me. No other information is needed, other than a name (married name, please, for females, if applies) and the specific village (i. e., Korzeniec, Leszczawa Dolne) near Bircza they lived in. When someone clicks on a name in the 'phone book', they will be taken to the Researcher Information. That is simply the submitter's name and E-mail, and a list of names he is searching (or simply related to) in the Bircza Region. Entries do not have to be those of Jews, they can be Ukrainian or Polish, as well. The whole BO! production should be completed around 23 August. I will post again to announce its completion and availability. Thanks, David Gershon Leventhal David_Gershon@iname.com Canton, Michigan / Herzliyya, Israel to be COMPLETELY updated 23 Aug: http://pw2.netcom.com/~leventhl/geneal.htm Searching ... GARTNER, GOLDSMID, ROSENTHAL, TOBIAS (in USA: New York City and surrounding areas) LOWENTHAL (in Argentina: Buenos Aires and surrounding areas)

Searching FREIFELD, HAMER, and TURNER
#general
David Gershon Leventhal <David_Gershon@...>
Hello all,
I seem to have added three new names to my research. Yesterday, while looking through some old lettres of correspondence between my grandfather and his aunt, I noticed three previously unheard-of (to me) names. My great-great-aunt wrote that her mother, Szajndel Bierfass Tepper (aka: Szandl Bierfass Tepper), daughter of Dawid Bierfass, came >from the BIERFASS, HAMER, and TURNER houses in Zohatyn, near Bircza, Poland. My grandfather was surprised to read that, because he had always told me that she came >from Nezankowice, which is a shtetl near Bircza, far larger than Zohatyn, and even Bircza itself! She also wrote that there was a FREIFELD family in Zohatyn, presumably also related to Szajndel, her mother. I know absolutely nothing else on the HAMER, TURNER, and FREIFELD families, but if you are searching any of them, in Galicia, please contact me. I might be able to piece together something. Thanks, David Gershon Leventhal David_Gershon@iname.com Canton, Michigan / Herzliyya, Israel to be COMPLETELY updated 23 Aug: http://pw2.netcom.com/~leventhl/geneal.htm Searching ...
