following words appear after my great-grandmother's name--

It's possible that the "f" in the first word could be a "j"; and the "t" in
the second word could be a "b". I know she was deceased at the time of my
father's birth.

Could someone please help with a translation. I couldn't find these words
in my Polish/American dictionary. With many thanks--

Project has moved into high gear on a number of projects -- so much, in
fact, that Joyce Field and I have been straining to keep up! Consider this
a report on "work in progress" rather than work completed.

First, we are changing our name >from the "Yizkor Book SIG" to the
"JewishGen Yizkor Book Project." We think the new name describes us
better. Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are generally created for people
interested in a special geographical area. Yizkor Books, because they
describe towns throughout Eastern and Central Europe, can be of interest to
almost everyone. Also, most SIGs are independent groups, whereas our new
name makes clear that we are a project of JewishGen, Inc.

Along with the name change, there are some minor title changes: I am
Project Manager, Joyce Field is Translations Manager, and Susannah Juni is
Translations Advisor.

As you probably read elsewhere, JewishGen has new, improved software for
its mailing lists, including the Yizkor Book List. We apologize that you
received some "test" messages and duplicate messages as we made the
transition to the new system. Messages to the whole group should continue
to go to <yizkor@jewishgen.org>. However, change-of-status requests (such
as "unsubscribe" requests) go to a new address:

Over the past month, we've also experienced an unprecedented number of new

Koden (Poland).

Ruined Garden" (Indiana University Press, 1998).

of her emigration >from Kiev in 1989 and of her search for relatives living in
the US. She had been unsuccessful in her search. I told her of JewishGen and

and Rukhl. After arriving in America, they changed their family name to
Wiener. My uncle wrote that they had two more sons born later in America.
I know that my aunt and uncle have passed away but I would like to find
their children - my cousins.

The last contact with my uncle was a letter received in 1944 or 1945.
Unfortunately, political circumstances made it impossible to continue
correspondence afterwards. Their address in 1945 was:

Brooklyn, NY

The attached photographs are of (1) my aunt and uncle and (2) one of their
daughter sometime in the 1940s. The third photo is a scrap of paper with
their return address >from a letter.

I don't know what synagogue they belonged to but it was probably near their
home. As far as I know several families >from my uncle's home town of
Vinarod settled in the same neighborhood. Perhaps some of their

descendants

still live in the area. The cemetary records of the local synagogues may
contain some clues.

I would be very grateful for your help because loneliness for family has
been an especially painful part of my emigration. Thank you.
