Old Jewish Family-Villa Real/Villareal/ Villarreal #general

BVillar745 <bvillar745@...>

I am trying to work on the family genealogy and need information on the
Spanish or Italian history of the Villa Reals ,or the spelling maybe
VILLARREAL or VILLAREAL. I know that Benjamin D'ISRAELI( DISRAELI) ,
Prime Minsiter of England, had a grandmother >from the Villa Real(Villareal) family which was a prominent Jewish family. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks.

Finding BMD records #general

COL HARRY E STEIN <YTPT23A@...>

I have noted many requests for information on how to find and send
for city, county, state and country birth, marriage and death records.
I commend to you the book entitled, "International Vital Records
Handbook", by Thomas Jay Kemp, published by Genealogical Publishing
Company. The book provides this information as well as cost and
printed application forms for the repositories you seek. These forms
can be photocopied and when sent with payment meets the requirement
of the municipality. The book covers the United States very
comprehensively and to a lesser extent, other countries. You may
also wish to consider, "The Handy Book for Genealogists" published by
The Everton Publishers, Inc. Also a good book but less user friendly
in that it does not contain the forms, but does list genalogical
societies that have similiar interests >from which you can seek help.
These books are held in many libraries and can be ordered through the
interlibrary loan program.
Harry

First name Leicie #general

D. Abrams <dabrams1@...>

Hi-
Has anyone come across or know anything about this name? I just discovered
a relative named Leicie LEVENKROHN on a ship's manifest. I have never
heard of this name and could find no mention of it on the Discussion Group
Archives or on several other databases. Her family came >from the Zolkiew
area in Galicia, if that helps at all.

Is it a form or Leie?

Dear Fellow JewishGenners,

I, too, am translating part of a yiskor book and need help with a few
Yiddish words, abbreviations, titles.

1. alef, yud, nun, zayin, shin
If used as a title before a person's name, this could equate to "Ing."
meaning "Engineer."

Folks, this message is just to call your attention to the fact
that the "court of last resort" is to place your message in this
mailing list. Not that you're not welcome....you are <grin>, but
first things first, please

Because we can only post one digest a day and it has been
getting bigger and bigger and b i g g e r ...we would like
to bring your attention to a specific section in the information
about the JewishGen Discussion Group...accessed >from our
homepage http://www.jewishgen.org Go there, and just click on
the Discussion Group and you'll next see a Table of Contents.
I'd like you to pay particular attention to

V. How to Get the Most Out of Using JewishGen

Frankly, this Discussion Group is only one small part of our
organization, and many of the other places which might well hold
the answers to your questions are to be found in Section V

If you do nothing else today, please take a few minutes to visit
that section and explore the sites listed. Not only will you be
doing us a favor by finding answers instead of posting the
questions that most beginners ask, you'll be doing yourself a
favor in opening the doors to many more avenues of research.

As a matter of fact, it might be a good idea for you to start at
the top of the homepage and click on every single link so that
you will know what JewishGen is all about. When you get to the
searchable databases, type in every surname of interest to you,
you might be amazed at what turns up! I found one of my primary
surnames in the Phoenix Project, enabling me to document that
there were indeed family connections in Brest Litovsk in the
1940's....something no-one alive today could have known about.

Try it out...who knows what rewards await you.

Happy hunting, and thanks for helping us to improve this forum

Data Base #lithuania

Irwin S. <irwins@...>

To Whom It May Concern,

The Jewish Community Center of Wilkes Barre, Pa. is going to try to
computerize the records of the local Jewish funeral director. His
records go back at least 60 years. They would like to copy all of the
information on his index cards that would include parent's names and
other family names.

Can anybody suggest a computer program that might work for this very
important project? For example, would "Ultimate Family Tree" work?

Please post any response on my private email and I will refer these
responses to the JCC.

Thanks in advance for any input that anybody can provide.
