I am interested in Malya Weinberg, d/o Morris Weinberg and Sarah Fine,
per Malya's death certificate. Malya said to have been born May 1853 in
'Buranovo' which I believe is 'Baranovka' now. She immigrated w/husband

lst a Mr. Muchnick by which she had a son [unknown] and then married
Ashkenazy.
Any connection?

David Theodore Smith, Lawyer #general

Joan C. Brown <jcb2502@...>

On the suggestion of a knowledgeable Genner, I wrote to Mr Sidney
Gribetz at the Supreme Court of the State of New York requesting the
unsealing of D.T. Smith's admission documents to the Bar of the State of
New York.
He replied that no person by that name was ever licensed to practice law
by that Court and so they could not be of assistance.
I am aware that the family originally used Schmidt between about 1892 and
1900. But it was Smith after that. Lawyer Smith graduated >from Cornell
with honors and a degree in law in 1908 and practiced in Brooklyn and
then Manhattan.
He was so adamant that he was 'Smith', I cannot see him applying at
Schmidt.

Would he not have to be admitted to the NY Bar to practice in NYC?

Suggestions anyone?

out-dated JGFF info #general

ds66@...

I tried to find an e-mail address on the JGFF web page where I
could send this comment/plea, but as there is no specific webmaster
for that site I decided here was the next best place to be heard.
Is it possible, perhaps annually, for someone to verify the researcher
information on the JGFF? I have recently encountered numerous e-mail
addresses (as well as snail-mail) that are no longer valid. If the
researcher has not updated this information (which is a very simple
process >from the JGFF main page) then it seems evident that he or she
is no longer actively engaged in this endeavor.

I realize there are more pressing issue in the day-to-day operation of
the JewishGen web site but yearly maintenaince does not seem all that
unreasonable (does it?).
