My DNA Haplogroups: mtDNA: N1b2 /// Y-DNA: J2a1b1* #dna

Rashi Rosenzweig

Dear Genners:

Over 3 years ago, I tested with 23 and Me and the above-mentioned are
my maternal & paternal haplogroups respectively.

I have the following questions:

a) Anybody else out there in Jewishgen land with one or both of the
same haplogroups that I am in? If you are, then I'm very sorry to say
that we're both related somehow. But, don't worry. I'm not going to
ask you for a loan to put down on a house or a car or anything like
that. (a cruise...maybe). :)

b) It seems as if the DNA research groups in Jewishgen are
restricted to those who are clients of a competitor of "23 and me".
Is there anyway that we clients of "23 and me" could also participate?

Thanks!! And wishing you all a great week.

Best,
Rashi Rosenzweig
Ra'anana ISRAEL

Willesden Cemetery special events 4 and 11 September #unitedkingdom

Raymond Montanjees

Willesden United Synagogue Cemetery will be especially open on two Sundays
in September for Bnai Brith European Days of Jewish Culture.
On 4 September there is a rare opportunity to tour the site's highlights
with past US president Elkan Levy.
On 11 September we are also teaming up with the National Trust's UK-wide
Heritage Open Days to offer a panel discussion with heritage experts plus
a walking tour led by Rachel Kolsky.
The cemetery grounds are open for free visiting on both these days and on
September 11 you'll be able to see inside ceremonial buildings not normally
open to the public.

Kitchener Camp in Kent #unitedkingdom

Robert Fraser

Dear friends

Last year, I sought information concerning the location and
condition of the former Kitchener Refugee Camp in Kent.
Several people responded, mostly seeking information
themselves. I promised to report back after I visited the
location in 2016. I have now returned home and here's what
I experienced.

I visited the location of the camp in the company of
historian Dr Claire Ungerson, who has written a book about
the camp (for more details, please email me off-list).
Claire has done extensive research, and in fact lives only
some ten minutes' walk >from the former camp.

Frankly, there is little left to see, and one would never
know that a large refugee camp once existed there, albeit
for a few years only. The site is at the side of the
Ramsgate road about a mile or less out of Sandwich over the
Tollgate bridge that crosses the River Stour. The area is
now an industrial site formerly occupied by a chemical
company. There is one hut which is certainly one of the camp
huts, but it was behind fencing, part of what looks like a
scrap yard, and inaccessible. Another identical hut survives
across the road; an area once occupied by 'Haig camp' which
was also a part of the refugee camp. It's close to Stonar
lake, where the 'campers' used to bath in warm weather. This
hut also is not easily accessible. And that's it.

I have photos if anyone is interested - please email me
off-list.

Final word from the Seattle 2016 Conference #unitedkingdom

bounce-3189191-785714@...

If you attended the Conference, did you get to every session you wanted
to see? Did you hear buzz about sessions you wish you had been to? What
about the one that created an Aha! moment you want to recapture (like
Devin Naar's keynote or Judy Russell's banquet talk)?

You still can subscribe to the LIVE! on-demand service that will let you
watch many of the best sessions of the past week after you get home. You
can subscribe on line, for 90 days of on-demand viewing for $179.
On-demand viewing is good through 12 November 2016

To subscribe, go to the Attendee Service Center, log in, select Buy
LIVE!, Edit your account, and click Continue to the page with the LIVE!
Full Add On check box. Check it and continue to the confirmation and
payment pages. The Attendee Service Center will remain open next week,
but don't procrastinate, because we will have to close it soon.

For those who did not register for the Conference, please give us a
chance to regroup for a couple of days. Then, beginning 15 August, go
to the New Registration page at
https://s4.goeshow.com/iajgs/annual/2016/registration_form.cfm
We don't know how long we can keep that page open, so please do it
before August 19.

Need help finding Evidence of Jewish Heritage #unitedkingdom

lisamerchant123@...

Hello,

My late grandmother was jewish, but was not involved in a community. I
am finding it impossible to find any evidence of her Jewishness. Her
name was Peggy Gibbons, her mother was Sarah Rachel Young, they lived in
Hackney. I have searched online records but cannot find anything. Does
anyone have any advice or by some miracle any connections? Thanks,

Lisa Merchant

PEARLMAN family from Paterson New Jersey #general

In 1934 Avraham Arye WISZENGRAD wrote a book called Divrei Avraham. In the
forward to the book he "thanks his sister's son Meyer Tzvi Pearlman from
Paterson America for all the favours he did on his behalf".(Translated from
the Hebrew)

I would appreciate getting in touch with Meyer's family as I am a descendent
