PATLAJEAN - Kishinev and Paris #general

Jules Feldman

I am looking for the descendants of Hirsh PATLAJEAN who died in Kishinev
(Chisinau) in 1933 and his wife Milke (Malka) nee PERLSTEIN born 1862 in
Kishinev and expelled to Transnistria in the Holocaust and died there in
1942.

They had 2 sons: Shimshon Ber born 1883 and Simcha born 1894, and a
daughter Freyda born 1898. One of the sons migrated to Paris where he was
a sculptor; his brother and sister may have moved there as well.

My wife's great aunt Sara VOSKOBOINIK who was an artist in Tel Aviv spent
a few years in Paris in the 1950's and met the PATLAJEAN family.

I will be grateful if our French mavens can offer some clues.

Siblings of Jacob Benedikt WOHL and Isaak Abraham KOHN (ENGLAENDER) #germany

Ralph Baer

Jacob Benedict WOHL (also known as Lekisch FORTH) of Schnaittach in the
present-day Landkreis Nuernberger Land, Bavaria, was a half-brother of my
ancestor Isaak Abraham KOHN (ENGLAENDER) (died 29 April 1780 Fuerth). They
had the same mother, probably named Sorle, but different fathers, most
likely Bendit (=Baruch) David WOHL of Frankfurt am Main and definitely
Abraham Isaak KOHN of Fuerth, respectively.

Jacob was childless and died in 1775. On his 1773 will, five sisters or
half-sisters are mentioned. The sisters were born in Frankfurt or Fuerth,
depending upon whether they were sisters or half-sisters. The will is now
on-line at the Leo Baeck Institute website in the Albert PHIEBIG collection.

I am interested in finding out if anyone has a connection to or knowledge of
any of these sisters and their families:

1. Fradl in Amsterdam.

2. Kanla in Mosenheim (Mainzer Land) (a town which I cannot locate, perhaps
Meisenheim). Her daughter Fromala was married to Juden Vogt in Illfeld,
Bavaria (probably Uehlfeld [now in the Landkreis Neustadt an der Aisch - Bad
Windesheim, Bavaria]), also children Kadl and Koepl.

3. Judl (umlaut on u) in Hammerstein (Mainzer Land) (another town which I am
not sure of), had a son Hirschl Josl in Hermannstein (now in the
Lahn-Dill-Kreis, Hessen). I am not certain which place named Hammerstein
belonged to Mainz, perhaps Hammerstein am Rhein in the Landkreis Neuwied.

4. A sister in Langenschwarz, given name not mentioned, (at that time
belonging to the Stift Fulda, now in the Landkreis Fulda, Hessen). Either
married to or had a son named Meyer.

5. Rosl (umlaut on o) in Wasserlos (now in the Landkreis Aschaffenburg),
died before 1773.

In addition, there was a brother, name unknown, who had two daughters, the
wife of David Low (umlaut on o) in Schwarzenberg (perhaps the one in the
Erzgebirgskreis, Sachsen) and the wife of Wolf Jacob in Illfeld, Bavaria
(again probably Uehlfeld).

The first three sisters and the brother also probably died by 1773 since the
inheritance went to their children. I realize that these references are far
from specific. E.g., there were probably a lot of Fradls in Amsterdam in the
mid-18th century.

Opinions about what the towns are which I cannot identify with certainty are
also appreciated.

[I add for informational purposes that I am a descendant of Isaak Abraham
KOHN's (ENGLAENDER's) daughter Dina ENGLAENDER (born about 1745 Fuerth, died
22 August 1785 Baiersdorf) who married Abraham Meyer AUB (born about 1743
Baiersdorf, died 30 May 1811 Baiersdorf). Albert PHIEBIG was a descendant of
Dina's younger half-brother Abraham Hirsch KOHN (ENGLAENDER) (born 22 July
1764 Fuerth, died 16 September 1788 Fuerth).]

It's been a week since the conference! I still am thinking about all I
leared and what a privilege it was to be there. Thanks to all who
presented and for the encouragement I received. Now I look at the scope

My husband and I leave for Israel in two weeks; only after we get
there will I be able to really process what I might do to be a
contributor to the GerSIG Email Forum.

Thanks again, Yonnah Ben Levy bezalel.levy@gmail.com

INTRO - researching BLOCH, GOLDSCHMIDT families from Niedersachsen #germany

Deborah Blinder

Hello. I'm new to the GerSIG list. My name is Deborah Blankenberg, and
I live in Lodi, California, USA. My native language is English.

I am researching my maternal line in Germany. My mother was Charlotte
BLOCH, born in Sulingen, Niedersachsen. Her father, Iwan BLOCH, was
born in Sulingen in 1878; her mother, Toni BLOCH, was born in 1885 in
Twistringen, Niedersachsen. My grandparents' fathers, Heinrich BLOCH
(born 1843 in Sulingen) and Julius BLOCH (born 1845 or 1853 in
Twistringen), were brothers; they were sons of Jacob BLOCH (born 1809
in Bassum, Niedersachsen) and Eva HEINEMANN (born 1809). Heinrich's
wife (Iwan's mother) was Eva COHN (born 1848 in Seesen,
Niedersachsen), and Julius' wife (Toni's mother) was Rosette
GOLDSCHMIDT. Jacob's parents were Jonas Jonathan BLOCH (born 1761 in
Schwihau-Svihov, Bohemia) and Roeschen/Roschen (o umlaut) RIS (born
1772). Jonas' father, whose date and place of birth I do not know also
was named Jacob BLOCH.

My JGFF Researcher ID number is 613395.

The only thing I have to add is that bribing the Border Guards at the
Russo-Polish border seems to have been common as both my mother's family and my
in-laws told me about having to do this. My in-laws were helped greatly
by HIAS once they had arrived in Poland, and HIAS helped arrange for their
getting to the port and arranging passage. Another common practice, at least
in my family, seemed to be altering the birth dates of children on their
manifest or on arrival.
