Tykocin Memorial Visit #poland

Irving Goldman <irvinggoldman50@...>

Following on >from the email of 22nd June, I was very interested to hear
of the proposed visit to Tykocin. Unfortunately I will be unable to
attend as I will be in Budapest about to leave for home (Glasgow in the
UK).

My grandfather on my mother's side was Sam Tikochinsky, but known
as Sam Cohen when he came to the UK in 1912. It appears that he
was born in Mishnitz as was his sister Guta in 1907. Their father Isaac
was born in Stavitsk. He was a Cheder Teacher.

I would be interested if anyone has come across these names or towns in
Poland.

Kind regards

Irving Goldman

Gesher Galicia Luncheon Speaker and Galicia Programming at IAJGS Conference in Seattle #poland

Tony Kahane <tkahane@...>

GESHER GALICIA LUNCHEON SPEAKER

It is with great pleasure that Gesher Galicia announces that our
luncheon speaker at the IAJGS International Conference on Jewish
Genealogy will be Dr Sergey Kravtsov, who will present a talk on
"Galician Jewish Families: Histories and Legends". Dr Kravtsov will
discuss how many prominent Galician Jewish families became deeply
involved in Jewish history, in local and regional culture, and how
Jewish family legends were constructed and circulated. The luncheon
will take place on Monday, August 8, at 11:45 AM - 1:15 PM. There will
be time for Q & A following the presentation.

On Tuesday, August 9 >from 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM, Dr Kravtsov will present
a second talk on "Synagogues of Galicia as Cultural Heritage". From
the sixteenth century until the First World War, the construction of
synagogues in Galicia was a vibrant activity, resulting in an abundant
built heritage in a variety of types, styles and decoration. Rich in
historical and cultural significance, and in collective and personal
memories, the preservation of this heritage is a challenge to the
Galician legacy.

Dr Sergey R. Kravtsov is a Senior Research Associate at the Center for
Jewish Art, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Born in Lviv,
Ukraine, he was trained as an architect in his native city. He
received his doctoral degree in architectural history >from the
Institute for the Theory and History of Architecture in Moscow in
1993, and moved to Israel in 1994. He has published some 60 essays on
the history of urban planning and synagogue architecture. He has also
authored and co-authored five books, edited another book, and

Dear siggers,

Four more registrations were uploaded to Viewmate >from my newly
discovered LEVY & BECKER branches .

I'd appreciate any assistance with exact dates, names of parents,
spouses including maiden names, occupations, ages, where they came
from, if they were still alive at the time, other relatives etc.
I think I understood most of the certificates but as I have no
knowledge of Polish, I can't understand the connections between the
people on each report or any word that is not a name...

Dear Genners,

I have posted a photo on ViewMate at the following address:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM49177

My grandfather, Benjamin COHEN, is sitting on the front row, 3rd >from right. It seems
to be a group photo of a Masonic (?) Lodge with members and past presidents.
The photo was taken in London, England I believe in the 1930s or 40s.

Does anyone recognize the building? Do you know anyone else on the photo?

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application, or to my
personal email

Thank you very much.

Help with photo on ViewMate #general

Roberta Solit

I've posted a photo on ViewMate, #49196. It was found in an photo album of a
friend's grandmother. It was said that her family came >from Galicia.

Hoping that someone would be able to estimate the location and date it
was taken.

Can anyone identify the military uniform that the young man is wearing?
Are there any other items that might be clues that might help in
eventually identifying the mother and her son and daughter?

Thank you,
Roberta Solit
