Thanks. What you sent was a great help. Your information is correct. However, as rumored, two of the dhildren, John abd Sarah, ages 16 and 12, arrived in Hallifax Canada, and were hospitalized upon arrival in 1907. So now it all fits together.
Another item from the boat record that was of great help was that the mother's name was Chia, a misspelling of Chaia. Her descendants who even remembered her name, knew her her as Ida only. Her great grandmother in Poland, born in the 1830s was named Chaia. -- Avivah R. Z. Pinski , near Philadelphia, USA

Hi,
I was wondering if I could get assistance with learning more about R' Menachem Mendel Rubin of Linsk/Lesko (Geni Profile: https://www.geni.com/people/R-Menachem-Mendel-Rubin-of-Linsk/4632923256290129625) and his known descendants. I strongly suspect that my ggggg-grandfather Yaakov Rubin (d. 1847-1848) was R' Menachem Mendel Rubin's grandson but I have gotten stuck with trying to find the exact connection, which would likely just be a single generation. The evidence that suggests the connection includes (1) similar first names between the families (i.e. R' Menachem Mendel Rubin's father was named Yaakov, the same name as my ancestor; my ancestor Yaakov's son (and my gggg-grandfather) was named Menachem Mendel Rubin and was born in ~1810 after R' Menachem Mendel Rubin had died); (2) my ancestor Yaakov Rubin's eldest son Eliezer married into the Horowitz Rabbinic family, who were connected to the Rabbinic Rubin family; and (3) my Rubin family was living in Korczyna, Galicia, which was the same area as the Rabbinic Rubin family in Linsk/Lesko. I think there is a possibility that my ancestor Yaakov's father could be Yehoshua, who was a known son of R' Menachem Mendel Rubin. There is a tombstone in the Korczyna cemetery that lists a Yaakov ben Yehoshua who died in January 1848 and which states that the father Yehoshua was the head of the Rabbinical court of the nearby town of Rymanow (link, fourth from bottom: https://cemetery.jewish.org.pl/list/c_36). Korczyna was a very small town and so there is the distinct possibility that this grave could be of my ggggg-grandfather Yaakov. Are there any sources that provide information about R' Menachem Mendel's son R' Yehoshua Rubin? Thank you, Jeremy Lehmann

Gary,
I know about the fire at the Kamenetz-Podolsk archives but do not know if any records survived and the condition of those records. Do you know of any records available for Gorodok in Podolia Gubernia and if so how to access them? Many thanks, Carole Silverman

Has anyone had luck with Kiblitch/Kublich Vinnitsa oblast, Ukraine? I have talked to people there and was told there weren't any records from Kublich. I also was told there were some revision, deed, voter and military records but have not been translated. I had plans to go last May until Covid struck. I hope to make it next year but am waiting to see if records transpire. I have been able to locate "cousins" and a picture of the land before the cemetery was dismantled. Any search suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

YOAV ARAN
Shalom friends, I have read in a secondary source that on March 24, 1812, 45 heads of Jewish Langendorf families obtained their citizenship papers. Among these were 2 of my direct ancestors. I have searched the JewishGen database [https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/1509/], but unfortunately their names did not show up. Does anyone know how I can access records for the obtaining of citizenship in Langendorf for Jews in 1812? Thank you very much indeed. Best wishes, Yoav Aran

I'm researching my Schonberger and Weisz family in Nograd, trying to make a link possibly to a Grunbaum family from the region. My great great grandfather was Lipot Schonberger who was married to Betty Braun, 2 daughters were born in Vag Ujhely but one of them (my great grandmother) settled in Balassagyarmat where they brought up their children.
I have been looking through early synagogue books in Balassagyarmat and Vag Ujhely but there aren't many Schonbergers, although there was a Jozsef Schonberger in Balassagyarmat who had a number of children there. I'd love to know if these are related to Lipot. Jozsef's son Fulop was married to Malvin Grunbaum, this could be the connection I'm looking for but I would need to know if Jozsef was related to Lipot, so I would need early 1800 records to find Jozsef. I'm wondering where in Nograd they might have come from, I figure there must be a concentration of the family in one of the towns and I would really appreciate some help in pointing me towards the right books. Thank you so much for any help. Emma

If you are referring to Novaya Ushitsa, Podolia Gubernia, Ukraine, then my paternal ancestors are also from that town. Surnames I am interested in are Bikman, Rosenblatt, Marshtein & Zaltzman. My grandparents left Novaya Ushitsa in 1910 and 1913 respectively.

Hi Frank:
I hope you and your family are well. It's hard to believe it's been 21 years since I met you in Minsk! You recommended Jewish Tour (jewish-tour.com). Who are the owners, researchers and tour guides at that company? There aren't any people's names or profiles on their website. My clients often ask for researcher recommendations in Belarus but, for me, it's important to know the people behind the company. Thank you, Risa -- Risa Daitzman Heywood Portugal and Arizona

Need Help in Downtown Brooklyn NY
#records
Carol
Hello,
Is there anyone who works in downtown Brooklyn or has occasion to be there who could go and retrieve a record for me. It is a property record (grantor-grantee) from the 1920s. It is only available on microfilm at the county office of the Dept of Finance. I have the info on address, times, etc. but cannot get a phone number to check more. I'd truly appreciate it if someone could do this relatively easily. I've done these before, and it isn't hard but I can't go from Boston to NY at the moment! Thanks in advance, Carol Isenberg Clingan Dedham MA MODERATOR NOTE: Please reply privately
