In regards to finding the cemetery where Henry Gottlieb is buried,
Henry may NOT be in a cemetery. I have two people >from that era, one who died of Parkinson's and the other who died in an asylum, who donated their bodies/brains to science. For one there is a cenotaph in the family plot where many members are buried, but for the one who died in an asylum, there is nothing. At the time of his death, he was married to a 2nd wife and he had no children. Roberta Jaffer Bedford, Massachusetts

NYTimes: Frederick Mayer, Jew Who Spied on Nazis After Fleeing Germany, Dies at 94

Werner Frank
As we approach Yom Hashoah, let our GERSIG community see a different
side of the Holocaust through the life of my cousin, Frederick Mayer. While his plea to bomb the rails to Auschwitz were not met, his heroics as an OSS agent made history. Seven years after leaving Germany with his family, Mr. Mayer parachuted into Austria as an American spy and helped to hasten the Nazi surrender of Innsbruck. Note the New York Times story of his recent passing at age 94. http://tinyurl.com/jr6apnf Werner L. Looking for descendants of Max GRUNSFELD: Berlin 1926 - 1938
#germany
Gregory L Barton <glb190@...>
Looking for descendants of Max GRUNSFELD, who is listed in the Berlin
telephone directory between 1926 and 1938. His address for much of the time was 9 Starstrasse, or Starstrasse 9 (esszet) in Dahlem area of Berlin. He is listed at this address in the phone books >from 1926 to about 1931 and then I believe at another address until 1938. His occupation is "Fabrikant" or "manufacturer". I believe he was in the wholesale cloth business. A woman I know has some property which belonged to him. It is not valuable but I would like to return to his descendants for its sentimental value. It would mean a lot to the current owner to be able to return to the family. A man of that name was killed in the Holocaust at Lahde concentration camp but I do not believe he is the same person because the other Max GRUNSFELD lived in different area of Germany and had a different profession or career. Assistance in locating someone in Israel
#general
krothstein
Hello,
We have been looking for 15 years for a survivor on my wife's paternal side. Her father, Henryck (Tzvi) Bieda, told us that he was married before the war but that his wife died. I wrote to ITS and was able to get documents proving that she actually survived and remarried and immigrated in 1948 to Israel. Her name was Sala Gurman nee Eisenberg b 1922. Her second husband was an Efroim Gurman b 1915. They had a son together by the name of Eliezar Gurman b 1946. I found an Eliezar Gurman in Haifa and left a couple of messages with no luck. I can provide his phone number and address if anyone can help. We would like to see if he has any information about my father-in-law's family possibly. I have also checked IGRA with no luck and Yad Vashem. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Please feel free to contact me privately. Thank You, Ken and Ann Rothstein Valencia, California krothstein@sbcglobal.net

Posen and Danzig are within the area covered by JRI-Poland. The same material (and that >from the rest of Prussian Poland) is included in the JewishGen Germany Database if you prefer to search >from there. GerSIG has many databases, though few as extensive as those at JRI. Visit http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Germany/ and see the list of component databases at the bottom of the page. Regarding Hamburg: Ancestry.com has put a great many vital records >from there on line, and is adding more. Baden: the Baden-Wuerttemberg State Archive has put all of the Baden vital records for 1810-1870 on line (Jewish and other), as well as the Baden-Wuerttemberg items that were filmed by the Nazis at the end of WW II and which survive only in the filmed versions. Familysearch.org has indexed a few towns' worth of the Baden vital records and is doing more. GerSIG is currently exploring the possibility of indexing the Wuerttemberg family registers. Of course, your assistance with any of our projects would be welcomed! If you're willing to create and maintain a list of all German sources, our grateful community will send our thanks directly to the hospital that's treating you for exhaustion. Germany has millions of records kept in thousands of places, not least because its relatively small Jewish population lived in hundreds and hundreds of tiny communities, much smaller than those in the shtetls, towns and cities of eastern Europe. Moreover, each German state kept--and keeps--its records differently. Roger Lustig Princeton, NJ USA Research coordinator, GerSIG

Hello to all of you
I have a lot of experience in research in Poland, but this is the first time I try to investigate in Germany. I tried to learn >from the site of the SIG Germany, but was confused with information. I have two specific questions: Is there a large database records vitality Germany - parallel to JRI Poland? Is there an organized list of all the towns in Germany and which information >from which years available for each city - as in JRI Poland? I am currently interested in Posen, Hamburg, Baden, and Danzig, but not necessarily. Many thanks in advance, David Nesher in Israel davidnead@gmail.com

Help with Goldschmidt in Hamburg

Sandra Cruz
Dear all
I need a help with the GOLDSCHMIDTs >from Hamburg. Some years ago I had written about the GOLDSCHMIDTs but now I found out that I was on a wrong way. My greatgrandfather John Abraham GOLDSCHMIDT (Hamburg in March 29 1846-February 09 1913)- son of Abraham Jonas GOLDSCHMIDT (Hamburg 1818-09/15/1877) and Johanna KANN (Frankfurt 03/02/1824-Hamburg 06/16/1896). About Johanna KANN I had a very successful story but unfortunately not from the forum. Now I found out that Abraham Jonas GOLDSCHMIDT's parents were: Jonas Abraham GOLDSCHMIDT and Friederike born LEVYSOHN. Is there someone >from Hamburg researching GOLDSCHMIDT? And where can I ask for documents in Hamburg? The Staatsarchiv Hamburg do not have archives online just an index beginning in 1876. It seems that all were from Hamburg (Altona) I thank in advance for any help in Hamburg Sandra Helena Cruz Sao Paulo, Brazil shr4559@hotmail.com

Dear Miriam,
If you get no takers I could be wrong but I believe the JGSGB maintains a folder of "orphan" certificates in their library so that they get the widest possible use by anyone who might be related. Hello SIGgers,
I've posted to ViewMate, #46442, a photo taken in London in 1942 of a "Professor Harris" and his mother. They had recently escaped to England, possibly >from Poland, via Spain, through the actions of a team of British and Spanish operatives organized by the MI6 and the British Red Cross. I am searching for anyone who recognizes these people and can tell me their actual names and final destinies. The doctor who housed them and created many exit documents >from Spain may be a candidate for "Righteous Among Nations" status. Judith Berlowitz, Oakland CA, USA
