FW: MUNKACS tombstones without family names #subcarpathia

Jona Schellekens <jona@...>

On Jewishgen there is a list of more than 1600 tombstones in Munkacs that
were still legible in 1925. Question: Are there any tombstones without a
family name? Were these omitted >from the list on Jewishgen? If they were,
where can I find them?

I am looking for the tombstone of a specific rabbi who lived in Munkacs. A
blogger on the internet (in Yiddish) mentions the tombstone of a judge
(dayan) in Munkacs by the name of Joseph Osterreicher (Yosef Zalman
Ostreicher) whom written Hebrew and Hungarian sources mention as living in
Munkacs in 1820-32. I am looking for his source, but can't find the
tombstone on Jewishgen. Is it possible that the rabbi was omitted, because
the tombstone does not mention a family name, but only his first name and
patronymic (Yosef Shlomo Zalman ben Eliezer)?

Please Reply Off-List.

JRI-Poland adds "single line" option to search results. #galicia

Jewish Records Indexing - Poland

Jewish Records Indexing - Poland <www.jri-poland.org> is pleased to
announce that the "single line" option has now been re-introduced to the
display of search results.

The switch to "stacked" output with a condensed table introduced in
June 2015 enabled JRI-Poland to display more data in a narrower screen.
Stacked output enables researchers to see all the data without the need
to scroll left and right.

With the "stacked" output, genealogical information such as Date of Birth,
Marriage/Divorce/Death/Registration would be displayed vertically in the
same column. With the "single line" option, each field would be in a
separate column.

Some researchers still prefer the "single line" output and have asked us
to reinstate that option. It became available today.

The default is the "stacked" option. To select the "single line" alternative,
scroll down on the search page to the bottom field of the "Search our
Database" box (Results Output) and click on "single line."

Thanks goes to JRI-Poland Database Manager Michael Tobias for his work
in programming the revised system.

At this time, I would also like to remind all researchers that Jewish
Records Indexing - Poland, Inc.is an *independent* non-profit U.S.
tax-exempt organization with its own administration, volunteers and
fundraising. JRI-Poland provides multiple option searches at
www.jri-poland.org/jriplweb.htm (As a service to researchers, JRI-Poland
data is also displayed on the JewishGen All-Poland database. The
JRI-Poland mailing list and database are hosted by JewishGen.)

ASCH, DYCK, L'ARRONGE escape to Sweden - via Denmark? #scandinavia

Irene Newhouse

Charlotte nee ASCH and her husband Walter DYCK were last in
contact with branches of the family I'm in contact with, >from
Denmark, during WWII. Charlotte's mother, Kaethe ASCH nee
L'ARRONGE, was able to join them. I recently found the entries
for Nazi revocation of their citizenship for the DYCKs. I also
learned >from ancestry indices that the trio lived to advanced
ages, dying in Sweden. Long ago, I tried locating travel
records in Denmark, and was told there were none for the DYCKs.
Generally the route to Sweden was through Denmark, though. Can
someone advise me of possible sources for more information on
their travels?

Thanks in advance!

1905 NY state census and 1910 federal census #general

Trudy Barch

Hi everyone,

I need an extra set of eyes to help me past my "brick wall". Looking
for this family in the 1905 New York State Census and the 1910 federal
census.

Isack and Ida Loochtan (current spelling) were married March 1903 in
Russia. Every document I have seen has a different last name spelling.
***I have all the documents listed below.

His naturalization paper (dated December 14, 1923 Chicago) says he
arrived in New York March 17, 1904. I'm guessing his wife was with
him.

Looking for child 1 (Lillian) born between March 1904 and March 1905
in New York. Then this little girl died 3 or 4 years later in New
York (1907 or 1908).

The 2nd child was born December 1905 in New York

The 3rd child was born in New York in March 1907

The 4th child was born in Chicago in June 1909.
And the younger children - 8 - were born in Chicago.

World War I draft for Isack was in 1918 in Chicago.

The 1920 and 1930 census were >from Chicago.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Theresienstadt communal resettlement program offered by the Nazis #germany

Judy Vasos

Does anyone have details about the communal resettlement program at
Theresienstadtcoffered to elderly Jews? We have relatives who paid
200 RM for a spot in the camp.
I don't know how they were transported there in September 1942
or if they had anything close to safe, secure housing. The husband
died there in 1944 two years after arrival and his wife was shortly
thereafter sent to Auschwitz and murdered.

Any information about this housing "sscheme" would be greatly appreciated.
