Lancut research #galicia

Logan J. Kleinwaks

I am exploring a possible project to try to discover "new" Lancut
genealogical records in Lviv. If you are researching Lancut and would
like to know more, please contact me directly. This project will
probably not proceed unless there is sufficient interest >from other
researchers to share the cost.

It was once Poland, but at that time part of the Russian Empire.

Thanks,

Re: Death notations on Lemberg birth records #galicia

Mark Halpern

The discussion was not about the death record, but about a notation on the birth
record in Galicia of the death (or marriage) of that individual. Although that
notation occurs mainly when the birth and death (or other event) occur in the
same jurisdiction, I have seen many examples where a death or a marriage that
occurred in another town was noted on an individual's birth record. This subsequent
event updates the civil status of that individual.

I have found two examples in my Galitzianer family. My grandfather's 1863 birth was
amended with a note referring to his 1937 death in the same town. My grandfather's
cousin's 1855 birth was amended with a surname change that was registered in
another town.

LitvakSIG has a new look!

We are proud to announce the release of our newly redesigned website
LitvakSIG.org

Menus have been streamlined to facilitate easy navigation and access
to the information you are seeking. The ALD search page has a new
additional category "fuzzy search," links have been corrected, and a
new updated Shtetl list is available.
