Alaska Cruise Opportunities with IAJGS Conference Announced #hungary

bounce-3032732-772961@...

Please read the entire message before responding. If you wish to book one
of our cruises, the booking information and additional information on the
cruises is on the conference blog at http://www.iajgs2016.org/blog/ . Due
to limited availability, our travel agent will have to take deposits on a
first-come first-served basis. First of all, we want to thank all of you
who indicated to us that you were interested in taking an Alaska cruise
either before or after the Conference in Seattle, next summer. When we sent
out the message, we hoped we might get 20 or 25 responses, enough to put
together a group of about 40-50. We received over 60 responses, indicating
an interest >from a total of over 130 people, including spouses and families
(and, in at least one case, neighbors) Due to the timing of cruises
available, many of the cruises we looked at were already close to or
completely sold out. We determined that by booking through Sharon Furlong,
a travel agent who is very experienced with Alaska cruises, we could offer
each cruiser a personalized experience based on their interests. There is
no additional charge for this service, and she will make you aware of
discounts available, which may include retired military, AARP, former
cruisers, etc. In addition, depending on the size of each group, the cruise
lines involved will make a contribution to the Conference as a sponsor.
Instructions for booking follow the descriptions of the cruises. All
cruises depart >from the Seattle Ship Terminal Pier 91, which is a convenient
10 minute cab ride >from the Conference hotel. As noted, some of these
cruises have specials for people who book quickly.

In order to make the cruises available to the most people possible, we have
decided to offer three choices:

Pre-Conference Cruise

A Pre-Conference Cruise departs Seattle, Friday afternoon, July 29, 2016 at
5:00 PM, returning to Seattle on Friday morning, August 5, 2016 at 8 AM
onboard the Celebrity Solstice.

Two Post-Conference Cruise Choices

We have elected to offer two post-conference cruises, both departing Seattle
on Sunday, August 14 at 4 in the afternoon and returning Sunday, August 21
in the morning. Boarding begins at 1:00 PM and you must be aboard by 3:30
PM. Both ships appeal to slightly different clientele, so you may wish to
consider this.

The Ruby Princess offers a variety of opportunities for a family oriented
cruiser

The Holland America Lines' MS Amsterdam departs Seattle and offers a more
adult-oriented cruise.

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE BEAUTY AND GRANDEUR OF ALASKA. >from THE EPIC
LANDSCAPES AND THE INCREDIBLE WILDLIFE TO THE HISTORIC AND COLORFUL CULTURE,
THE GREAT LAND IS A DESTINATION THAT WILL INSPIRE, AWE, AND LEAVE YOU WITH
MEMORIES YOU WILL NEVER FORGET.

Booking Your Cruise

We have made exclusive arrangements with Sharon Furlong , a Travel Agent who
has over 30 years of experience with Sharon's Travelers, an affiliate of
Incentive Connection Travel, to book cruises on behalf of the Conference
attendees. She has already reserved a limited number of cabins for each
cruise for conference attendees and their families and friends. You may
contact Sharon Furlong by Email at sharonstravelers@hotmail.com, mentioning
IAJGS Cruise in the subject line, or contact Sharon directly at (631)
357-7947 for voice or for text messages. Please do not call her between the
hours of 6 PM to 9 AM, Eastern Time (GMT-4), as this is her cell number.
Sharon is the owner and she will personally handle your booking. Please do
not contact the Conference chairs or IAJGS, as Sharon has all the
information available on these cruises. Sharon and the cruise lines will be
donating a portion of all fees for the cruises to help underwrite the
conference.

Additional information, including the itineraries of all three cruises is
now on the conference blog at http://www.iajgs2016.org/blog/. When these
cruises are sold out, we will not be able to accommodate anyone else, so do
not delay!

Thank you for your interest. We look forward to seeing you in Seattle and
enjoy a lovely cruise! Bon voyage!

Lodz Area Research Group #Lodz #Poland Alaska Cruise Opportunities with IAJGS Conference Announced #lodz #poland

Sharon and the cruise lines will be
donating a portion of all fees for the cruises to help underwrite the
conference.

Podgorze census records online #poland

Logan J. Kleinwaks

Podgorze census records and indices are viewable (but not searchable)
for 1857, 1870 (index only), 1880 (records only), 1890, 1900, and 1910
on szukajwarchiwach.pl. There are also census-like records for
1901-1915. Links to the images begin at:

http://www.szukajwarchiwach.pl/29/93/0/str/1/100#tabJednostki

Click on a link of interest, then click the "Digital copies" or
"Skany" tab at the top to see thumbnails. Click thumbnails to see
medium-size images. Click the rectangle icon in the bottom right of
medium-size images to see full-size images (which might not fit
entirely on your screen, so click and drag the full-size images with
your mouse to reveal off-screen sections).

I cannot provide more detailed instructions at this time, but perhaps
someone with an interest in Podgorze can do so.

1790-1792 census records for 200+ places in Krakow Voivodeship #poland

Logan J. Kleinwaks

A very important collection of Jewish census records >from 1790-1792
for about 240 towns and villages in what was then Krakow Voivodeship
(Province) is now viewable (but not searchable) online, as scans on
szukajwarchiwach.pl. The format and details vary somewhat by place,
but generally list entire households, with given names, patronymic of
head of household, relationships between members, and ages.

Genealogists able to link this information with post-surname sources
might learn the name of an ancestor born in the early 18th or late
17th century. And the information could potentially help link
families whose most recent common ancestor lived before surname
adoption. However, for many researchers there might be a gap in the
availability of later sources making it difficult to connect to these
people.

The scans are presented as small thumbnail images, medium-size images
that are sometimes legible, and full-size images that are usually
legible. To begin using the collection, view the nearly 1000
thumbnail images at:

http://www.szukajwarchiwach.pl/29/30/0/3/52/str/1/1/1000#tabSkany

To check if your town or village of interest is included, you can
consult the fifth-seventh images at the beginning, an alphabetical
list of places (I do not know whether it is accurate). After that,
the images are generally alphabetical by place name. So, if you are
interested in Zagorze, scroll to the bottom. Click on a thumbnail
image where you think it might approximately appear based on the
alphabetization. (This step could be improved if a linked index were
created.)

The medium-size image will pop up on your screen, which might be
sufficiently large for you to read the place name, which is usually
near the top left in pencil. If you do not see a place name, click on
the right or left side of the image (an arrow icon will appear under
your cursor) to go to the next or previous image. Once you see a
place name, click outside of the image or on the "x" on the top right
to close the medium-size image, and then click on a different
thumbnail image that should be closer alphabetically to your place of
interest, repeating until you find your place.

Once you have found your place, or if you cannot read a place name on
a medium-size image, you are ready to view the full-size image. In
the bottom right of the medium-size image's pop-up are two icons in
white on black circular backgrounds -- one a rectangle with marks at
the corners and the other a "z." To view the full-size image, click
the rectangle icon. Another window should pop up, probably without
any image initially. Wait, and the full-size image should appear
within a minute. The image will probably be too big to be displayed
all at once, in which case you can move your cursor over the image,
click with your mouse, and, while holding your mouse button down, drag
the image around so other parts are visible. Below the image,
centered, is a download link (you might have to use the window's
scrollbar to see the link).

An example of a typical full-size image is the following >from Radwanowice:

http://www.szukajwarchiwach.pl/29/30/0/3/52/skan/full/EnyuGT6YjcnXKc411IGw2w

The purpose of this message is to notify you of this newly available
resource, but I regret I am not able to provide individual assistance
with look-ups for your family or town. If you have questions about
the resource, please ask on the mailing list.

These scans were provided by the National Archives in Krakow. What a
tremendous gift they have given us by putting them online.

thumbnail image that should be closer alphabetically to your place of
interest, repeating until you find your place.

Warsaw 1808-1825 birth, marriage, death records online #poland

Logan J. Kleinwaks

Warsaw civil (Jewish and non-Jewish) birth, marriage, and death
records for 1808-1825 are viewable (not searchable) online as
thousands of scans on szukajwarchiwach.pl. The records are organized
by district (cyrkul). You might be able to learn the district where
your relatives lived >from other sources, such as later vital records
searchable at JRI-Poland or the homeowners' lists searchable in
JewishGen's All Poland Database or at genealogyindexer.org.

Links to the images begin at:

After selecting one of the above, click on a link of interest for
which the number in the rightmost column is not 0 (which indicates
there are no scans for that group of records). Then click the
"Digital copies" or "Skany" tab at the top to see thumbnail images.
At this point, you can browse through all the images or try to find
names of interest in the handwritten indices that are usually on the
last few images. Either way, when you find a thumbnail that you want
to enlarge, click the thumbnail to see a medium-size version. While
viewing a medium-size image, you can click on the right or left side
of the image (an arrow icon will appear under your cursor) to display
the next or previous medium-size image. Click the rectangle icon in
the bottom right of a medium-size image to see the full-size version
(which might not fit entirely on your screen, so click and drag the
full-size images with your mouse to reveal off-screen sections).
While viewing a full-size image, you can click the links just above
the image, on the right or left, to display the next or previous
full-size image.

Here is an example of a full-size image containing a Jewish record:
