Re: List of 37 Digitized Websites Relative to Jewish History and Genealogy #general

Mark London <mrl@...>

Does anyone keep a list of Jewish newspapers that are online? For
example, I only recently found out that the "Detroit Jewish News" had
put its archives online in 2013, while doing a google search. It would
be nice if someone kept an up-to-date database of such archives.

Death Certificate for Joachim DELIGDISH #general

Robert Avner

Joachim DELIGDISH died on April 1, 1930 - according to newspaper reports - on
the Hudson Tubes which I believe is the former name of the PATH train and
terminates in Hudson County.

I have not been able to locate his death certificate in NYC or in
New Jersey county of Hudson. Bayside Cemetery where he is buried in
Queens does not have any information as to where the death was
registered. Anybody have any ideas as to where to look?

(European Union) Updates on Right To Be Forgotten/ Extraterritoriality of EU Positions on Google, Facebook and Now Twitter #general

Jan Meisels Allen

If you are located in one the 28-member countries of the European Union or
researching the vital records of any of those 28 countries you should be
concerned about what is being proposed regarding "the right to be
forgotten/right to be erased" and EU actions against search engines such as
Google, Bing and Yahoo; social media companies such as Facebook and now
Twitter.

While the proposed data privacy regulation may not be finalized
until later this year or next, this is the time for you to try to obtain
records in case we are cut off.

The EU Observer has written an interesting update on the European Union's
(EU) proposed data privacy legislation - which was first introduced in 2012.
This is the legislation that espouses the "right to be forgotten" now called
the "right to be erased" a concept causing genealogists concern as to what
records may be available after the legislation is enacted. The fundamental
issue is privacy rights vs the right to know. To read the article see:
https://euobserver.com/justice/128812

As many genealogists use Facebook in their genealogy research and to
communicate with other family historians around the globe, this article
about the EU and Facebook may be of interest. To read the article go to:

[See MODERATOR note above.]

If you are a Twitter user you will find this of interest: On May 18 Irish
Data Commissioner took charge of policing Twitter privacy of the 300 million
people who use twitter outside the U.S. The move means all of the social
network's users outside of the US will come under the European Union's Data
Protection Directive. To read the article see:
http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/0518/701888-twitter-data/

There have been member state courts that have weighed in with decisions on
the "right to be forgotten", the extraterritoriality of the EU decisions on
data aggregators such as Google and social media firms such as Facebook. To
read about those actions, see the IAJGS Records Access Alert archives which

Searching for surname SISKIND or ZISKIND from Shklov #general

Keren Weiner

Dear JewishGen,

I am looking for a man whose surname was either SISKIND or ZISKIND
(first name unknown) born between 1880-1890 who lived in Shklov,
Mogilev, Belarus. His two brothers, Joseph SISKIND and Louis SISKIND
came to New York City in 1902 and 1906 respectively and raised their
families in Brooklyn. Their parents were Velvel or Wolf SISKIND and
Marilke EVSELMAN. This third brother did not come to the U.S.
apparently, but went >from Shklov to China and then went to Israel.
Joseph's grandchildren hope to learn more about the SISKIND family
from Shklov, including the first name of the grand uncle who went to
Israel and also hope to determine if there are descendants who would
welcome contact and family history sharing.

Any resources or information are much appreciated.

Thanks very much,

Keren Weiner

1850 Revision List for Orlya has been translated #belarus

Jrbaston

Dear fellow Lida District researchers:

I've just uploaded the translation of the 1850 Revision List (as well
as the 1851 Additional Revision List) for the town of Orlya to our
LitvakSIG Lida District Research Group site
(https://lidadistrict.shutterfly.com)

There are 219 individuals enumerated in this list. Surnames for the
1850 RL are on the homepage under Surname Lists (I am also
copying them at the bottom of this message).

Currently, this translated list is available only to qualified
contributors
to the LitvakSIG Lida District Research Group. After a period of
approximately 18 months, it will be searchable on the LitvakSIG
All Lithuania Database and the JewishGen Belarus Database.
A contribution of $100 US will guarantee you access to Excel
files of all translations of Lida District records (new and old)
for five calendar years, through December 31, 2019. **

With the completion of this list for Orlya, we have translated the
1850 Revision List for two-thirds of the 12 official Lida District
Towns of Registration (Eisiskes, Lida town, Orlya, Ostrynia,
Radun, Vasilishki, Voronova and Zheludok.) We have yet to
translate the 1850 RL for (in alphabetical order) Belitsa,
Novy Dwor, Rozhanka and Shchuchin.

** You can make a contribution by going to
www.litvaksig.org/contribute
then scrolling down to District Research and then choosing Lida
District.

If you have any questions, please write to me at JRBaston@aol.com.

And thanks again for all your support.

Dear fellow Rom-SIGgers,

We have just received the most recent financial report >from JewishGen.
Your Coordinators wanted to send a huge THANK YOU to all who have so
generously donated to the special fund that we set up in memory of our
late, and much loved, Bob Wascou z'l.

We have been deeply touched by your generosity. Bob was the soul of
Rom-SIG, and very much missed by us all. We are working very hard to
catch up, to find out exactly what it was that Bob did with such care
and precision. We hope that you will bear with us, as we go through
this learning process, and as we put out the call, volunteer to help us
to get the material we have acquired online. That is another way to

We will be letting Bob's widow and son know of your generosity, which I
am sure will be most comforting to them.

Hi Friends,
I hope everyone is doing well. I have some kind of document that has
to do with my great-grandfather Abraham BUEHLER on ViewMate. Here is the
URL: http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM40655

This is not a birth, death or marriage certificate. I don't actually have
any idea what it is. There are parts I can read, (which I noted on view
mate) and parts I can't. I'd like to know what it is and get a translation.

Thank you so much for your time. Sincerely,
