to learn more about it. Apparently the city of Nancy kept this register
and updated it annually until 1929. I don't know if other locales in the
Department or other areas did as well, but it is a great resource so worth
looking for in your research.

Like the national censuses, this registry is by address so
that's the starting point. If you don't have that piece of information
try searching for your family name in newspaper archives. I
discovered an entire branch of my family because my great grandfather
lost his jacket containing his personal documents and put a "LOST-REWARD"
ad in the newspaper in 1896.

bank in Vilnius. My local bank's flat rate for wire transfers abroad
is $40. Has anyone had recent experience (i.e., within the last 6
months or so) in sending payment for LVIA documents by any means
other than wire transfer, or know whether LVIA will accept other
means of payment?

Birth: 3 January 1794
Holohory, Zolochivs'kyi district, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine
Death: 23 January 1854 (60)
Lviv, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine
My father wrote a note that Josef Tarler's wife was born Gottman or Gottlieb.
He wrote that on 1940 and did not leave his source. So this may just be family
hearsay.

Josef Tarler came to Wielkie Oczy in 1813 so I am looking to see who was the
rabbi at the time. On jewishgen website I see Rabbi Mordechai Teomim Herc
was the rabbi of the Wielkie Oczy in 1821, but no one is listed before then.

Any places to looks/leads to follow ?

This is what I have for Josef/Joseph Tarler

Holohory, Zolochivs'kyi district, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine
Death: 23 January 1854 (60)
Lviv, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine
My father wrote a note that Josef Tarler's wife was born Gottman or Gottlieb.
He wrote that on 1940 and did not leave his source. So this may just be family
hearsay.

Josef Tarler came to Wielkie Oczy in 1813 so I am looking to see who was the
rabbi at the time. On jewishgen website I see Rabbi Mordechai Teomim Herc
was the rabbi of the Wielkie Oczy in 1821, but no one is listed before then.

Any places to looks/leads to follow ?

I received an email >from Ancestry this week notifying me the Gallipoli
War Diaries were available to search; my Great Grandfather served in
the 38th Royal Fusiliers (to which the Zion Mule Corps which served at
Gallipoli was the forerunner) and so I thought to search for this
Unit's War Diaries, the search returned lots of results, but nothing
which seemed to specifically relate to the actions they undertook. I
have read several books on the Judeans and featuring them but for a
long time have been interested to see the actual War Diaries kept by
the Unit.

Does anyone know if these are in Ancestry or alternatively where they
might be available to search.

intention to digitize their historical records. (see:

Genealogical and Biographical Society's quarterly magazine, describes the
project and the process, for digitizing birth, marriage and death
certificates in their possession. The article states the contractor's team
completed all the marriage certificates and Manhattan death certificates
through 1896 and all death certificates will be completed by early fall when
they begin the digitization of birth certificates. The project is expected
to be completed in June 2016. There is no mention of placing the images on
line.

the Ottoman Empire period. I would also suggest the archive at
Zichron Yaakov which goes back to that period. As to Akko, I
personally have had experience with their archives. Maybe they were
registered with the British consulate in Eretz Israel. If so, they may
be in some of the documents we have indexed. Registration for our
website is free.
