advice for searching Ancestry War Diaries (Judeans)
#general
Ben Forman
Hi Genners
I received an email >from Ancestry this week notifying me the Gallipoli War Diaries were available to search; my Great Grandfather served in the 38th Royal Fusiliers (to which the Zion Mule Corps which served at Gallipoli was the forerunner) and so I thought to search for this Unit's War Diaries, the search returned lots of results, but nothing which seemed to specifically relate to the actions they undertook. I have read several books on the Judeans and featuring them but for a long time have been interested to see the actual War Diaries kept by the Unit. Does anyone know if these are in Ancestry or alternatively where they might be available to search. Thanks Ben Ben Forman Manchester UK,(currently exiled in London) searching: BENSON: Hasenpoth/Courland; BERNSTEIN/WEINER: Ylakiai; CAHN/CAHEN/WOLF: Zuendorf/Bruhl/Lechenich/Ahrweiler; FURMAN: Kaluszyn; GEVER: Daugavpils/Dvinsk; STILLMAN:Pilica/Ogrodzienec SAWADY: Zavadi,Posen;

JewishGen Publishes Translation of Stawiski Poland Yizkor Book

Jan Meisels Allen
JewishGen's Yizkor-Books-In-Print Project has just published the
translation of the Stawiski (Poland) Yizkor Book. The book includes all the photographs and illustrations. I am the translation coordinator for the Stawiski Yizkor Book. The book is 406 pages and has additional photographs not included in the original printing. The book lists for $49.95 but Amazon.com is selling the book for around $36.00. If Amazon advertises it as a "used" book, that is not true as it only came out in April 2015. Purchase the lowest price book "used" or not. As it is printed on demand they really can't run out. However, if you want to purchase a minimum of 5 books or more, JewishGen has a special price of $25 per book which includes shipping--in the US and other pricing is available outside of the US...gifts for your family, your society library, the local holocaust center etc. To take advantage of this special pricing, contact Joel Alpert, Yizkor Books In Print Coordinator, at joel.alpert@uwalumni.com For more information see: http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/ybip/YBIP_Stawiski.html Stawiski, also known as Stavisk and Staviski, is located 53 degrees 22 minutes North Latitude and 22degrees 09 minutes East Longitude. Today, Stawiski is situated within Kolno County, in Podlaskie Voivodeship, approximately 16 kilometers east of Kolno and 74 km west of the regional capital Bialystok. the Ottoman Empire period. I would also suggest the archive at Zichron Yaakov which goes back to that period. As to Akko, I personally have had experience with their archives. Maybe they were registered with the British consulate in Eretz Israel. If so, they may be in some of the documents we have indexed. Registration for our website is free. The Children of Nathana Nuty and Feige Aptowitzer
#rabbinic
Stanley and Shelda Sandler
Dear Genners:
I am searching for the names of the children of Nathana Nuta APTOWITZER and Feige (maiden name unknown) APTOWITZER. Two of their children were named Aron Isak (aka "Arnitcha") APTOWITZER and Benzion APTOWITZER. There may have been seven other siblings whose names are unknown to my generation. Nathana Nuta and Feige are my 3 x's Great-Grandparents (my ggg-grandparents). They lived in Galicia, possibly in the town of Zborow in Tarnopol Gubernia. At the time of their son Benzion's death in 1902, Nathana Nuta and Feige were deceased. Benzion Aptowitzer (spelled Abtowitzer on his death record) died in the town of Zloczow on 26 July 1902. His death record indicates he is >from the town of Zborow and is the son of deceased parents Nathana Nuty Abtowitzer (sic) and Feigi Abtowitzer (sic). He was, according to the death record, 74 years old at the time of his death. He was buried in the town of Zloczow on 28 July 1902. If the information on the death record is accurate, I would place Benzion's birth during the year of 1828. I am searching for the names of Benzion's unknown siblings (sons and daughters of Nathana Nuta and Feige) in order to add the information to my family history. I am also trying to determine whether there is any relationship between my Aptowitzer family and the renowned Rabbi Avigdor (Victor) Aptowitzer, also from Galicia. A biography about Rabbi Avigdor Aptowitzer may be found inthe book Morei Galicia; however, there is no reference to siblings. Thank you in advance.
