Ratner brothers, Charles and Morris #general

Daria Buslaeva <dariabsl@...>

A couple of weeks ago I've found posts on JewishGen, since I've only
recently registered, about Ratner brothers Charles and Morris by
Bernard I. Kouchel. I've compared his information to mine and it's a
match, since they were my great-great grandmother's brothers. The
bitter irony is that Mr. Kouchel has passed away a couple of years ago
and now I can't reach any of his relatives or close friends. Do you
happen to know who should I ask?

Are the names the same? #general

RICHARD FRIEDMAN

Dear Genners,
I have recently confirmed through two sources that my G Mother Paya
Beilia [Rebecca] KURLIANDCHIK was born in Janova, Lithuania on Feb.15,
1881. She was the daughter of Shmerel ben Shmerel of Seta. Her mother
was Sara-Godes. She married my GFather Israel Moishe POCK/POK of
Globokye in Jan.1904

I am trying to create a family tree and have reviewed the many lists and
databases on JewishGens KahellaLinks and the LitvakSIG lists.

In reviewing these lists, I find various 'names' that could be also be
my gg grandparents. ie Could Shmerel also be called Sherlo, Shmerk ,
Shumel Shimel, Shamreyah etc. in one place and another name in another
place? Is Sora- Godes the same person as Sara Girsha or Sara Goda? Could
Khiena be the same as Chana, Henna or Hanna ? BTW, I know that spelling
doesn`t count and that the names are transliterated >from Cyrrilic.

Any and all ideas would be helpful and are deeply appreciated.

Is the German surname GERSHUTZ "Jewish?" #general

RuthNW <ruthnw@...>

An acquaintance of mine, whose paternal grandfather's surname was
GERSHUTZ (changed to GERSHULTZ after emigrating to the US after WWII),
is wondering where his (late) grandpa came >from in Germany and whether
his ancestry was Jewish.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. (Is there any other
genealogy source/website or SIG I should check?)

ViewMate Translation Request - Russian, GORECKI, WAINTROP #general

Genealogy BLW

Dear Genners,

I missed this one when I posted the last request for translation. It is
located at:

http://www.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/responselist.asp?key=38676

It is a birth record for Aydla GORECKI in 1901. I believe that she is
named after Aydla (WAINTROP) GORECKI who had recently passed away. Thus,
she should be a descendant of the particular GORECKI line I am trying to
track into the 20th century.

I need the genealogical information such as parents' names,
dates and/or ages, home towns. witnesses' names and any notes.

Please use the ViewMate form as replies remain in the JewishGen
archives.

Thank you for your help.

ViewMate Translation Requests, Russian, Markuszow & Opole Lubelskie (GORECKI, LOTERSZTEIN) #general

Genealogy BLW

Dear Genners,
I have posted two vital records in Russian at the following ViewMate
locations:

One is the marriage record for Abram Icek GORECKI and Ruchla Hinda
LOTERSZTEIN in 1873. I have already found birth records for two of their
sons, so this record should confirm that I have the correct individuals
and provide information on their parents.

The second record is potentially more interesting. It appears to be
signed by Naftula GORECKI as the father. Two of his sons emigrated to
North America, one by a circuitous route. There is rumor of a third
brother who emigrated to Canada, but no one can remember his name,
position in birth order or anything else about him. I hope that this is
the third brother who emigrated. If not, it adds another piece to the
family whose history has confounded their descendants.

Dear Genners,

How do I go about getting a copy of a marriage license >from 1918 in
Philadelphia, PA? I searched the Philadelphia web pages where there is
conflicting information for this. I sent an email to the only email address,
which was returned undeliverable. I have the names of the bride and groom,
the license number >from an index, and the year only. Thanks for any help.

SHATIL and RAIKHZELIGMAN #general

Angie Elfassi

Hi,

Im rechecking information about my RAIKHZELIGMAN (REICHZELIGMAN)
family and have found that Ginde/Hinde Rokhel d/o Yosel RAIKHZELIGMAN
married to Yosel Leyb s/o Ezra SHATIL. They have, so far as I can see,
4 children between the years of 1874 - 1879.

Izrail b 1874
Bas-Sheva b 1879
Azriel b 1881
Bendet b 1887

On the LitvakSIG births list - where I got the above information from,
it says that the father Yosel Leyb SHATIL was >from Panevezys.

Does the above connect to anyones ancestors?

Also on the LitvakSIG marriage and divorces page, there are a lot of SHATILS/
SAITELIS /SHAITEL marriages registered but not Ginde/Hinde and Yosel.

Thanks in advance,

Regards
