ViewMate Translation Request - Polish
#poland
I have posted a few vital records for which I need a translation. They
are on ViewMate beginning at the following addresses http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35548 http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35549 http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35550 http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35551 These documents are records of the Smolinski family of Rypin during the latter half of the 19th century. I am hoping the birth record of Jonas is that of my grandfather. Also the death certificate of Jacob Smolinski >from 1889 may reveal some interesting information. Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application. Thank you very much. Jerry Small jerry.small1947@sbcglobal.net

Jewish Board of Governors and mixed race children?
#general
David Laskin
I recently wrote an article about the IAJGS conference in the Jewish
Daily Forward, and one reader wrote in to comment that I had neglected to discuss the plight of children born to Jewish mothers and African-American fathers. The reader said that the Jewish Board of Guardians, which involved itself in these cases, "was particularly inhumane to minor Jewish mothers who wished to keep their mixed race children." I would like to pursue this topic, perhaps in an article, and find out more about the Jewish Board of Guardians. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with knowledge of this. Thanks.David Laskin, Seattle, WA

Interpreting Request - French and German
#general
Jean Warwick
Hi All
I requested information >from the International Tracing Service (ITS) collection held by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, which yielded 10 pages >from two Drancy [France] transports for which Jacob ADLER's name appear. The lists indicate he was deported >from Drancy on July 19, 1942 to Auschwitz [This is backed up by the French Death Record I posted on ViewMate previously]. I wonder if anyone can assist me in interpreting what the other documents are and what they are telling me? They have been written in both French and German and seem to be >from various sources, I can roughly translate some of the text but am having difficulty getting a clear picture of what they are, where they are >from and what their significance is. Any assistance would be gratefully received. I will post them on ViewMate in the order they were emailed to me, as this may have some relevance and also in two five lot batches as per the VM rules http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35582 http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35581 http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35580 http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35579 http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM35578 Please respond using the online ViewMate form.
