Dubossary KehilaLinks web site is ready #bessarabia

Yefim Kogan

Hi Bessarabia, Moldovan and Ukrainian researchers

Dubossary KehilaLinks website is completed and available at JewishGen.
You can directly access it at http://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/dubasari/

Dubossary used to be part of Kherson Gubernia in Russian Empire, and now
part of Moldova / Pridnestrovskaya Moldavskaya Republic.

This is 16th Kehila Links website completed at Bessarabia SIG, and two more
are in progress. See all sites available at
http://www.jewishgen.org/Bessarabia/KehilaLinks.html

I wish we have a 100 Kehila Links websites... for many towns, shteitlakh and
villages were Jews used to live in Bessarabia and Moldova. Please come
forward to create such memorials for towns, localities you care about. If
you have some information about that locale, a little history of Jews in
that place, maybe some stories/photos, that would be enough to make a
website...

All the best,

Seeking Family in Belgium #general

Susan Goldsmith

Dear Jewish Gen,

This is a long shot, but I am seeking a twenty-six year old Belgian
Jewish young man whose first name is Abel, and his French-speaking
grandparents who raised him. The grandfather is an artist and an
art professor at a Belgian university, the grandmother is Israeli
and a clothing designer and/or importer in Belgium. I would recognize
the family name, but cannot recall it.

Thank you for any leads you may have. Please respond to me privately.

Best Regards,

Burials of Rabbis in America #general

Moishe Miller

Dear Group,

I am not sure if this was ever posted, but I just came across a website
devoted to burials of Rabbis in North America. It is
http://www.kevarim.com/

There are postings and commentary on some of the burials which can yield
treasures of genealogical information. As an example, see a posting on
my cousin: http://kevarim.com/rabbi-yosef-lauer/

I have no other information or detail on this website, having only just
stumbled across it today.

Good luck in your own research endeavors!

Re: Surname "CHERRY" #general

rita shapiro <rivke@...>

CHERRY in Yiddish/German also translates to KIRSCH or KIRSCHEN
(plural) and KIRSTEIN which translates in French to CHIRSEN and any
variation of these names that one might think of would witness the
rule to use your imagination to think of other possibilities. My own
experience of finding my Father's second cousin who recalled hearing
his Father lament the fact that my Father had "changed" his name to
KIRSTEIN to give the family a little more panache perhaps with a name
of German sounding derivation.

Re: Seeking middle name in Hebrew #general

Gladys Paulin

The Hebrew name Aharon was often the basis for the Americanized names of
Harry and Herbert, using the letters "har".

There may never have been another Hebrew name given.

Gladys.

Re: Death Certificates/Registrations Lithuania - Help please? #general

Marcella Shames

Hi List

Does anyone know where or how I can apply for death
certificates/registrations or get burial information for three
people who died in Lithuania? All three people listed below died
of natural causes.

1. Pesah SHAMES d Dec 14 1935 - registered in Mazeikiai
Jewishgen has a record of his death in 1935. Would the
information on that record be all there is or would there
be more detail elsewhere - like where he is/was buried?
Parent's last names, maybe??

2. Leah Shames JOSELOVICH d 1987 Vilnius
I know nothing more about this death except parents were
Pesah SHAMES and Sore GERTSMARK

3. Hane/Chana JOSELOVICH d 1946 Vilnius
14 year-old daughter of Leah Shames (above) and Simon
Joselovich. Died of meningitis.

Any help, suggestions or ideas with the above is much appreciated

Thanks
Marcella Shames
