[Spain} Granada Founds Museum to Sephardic Jews #general

Jan Meisels Allen

The city of Granada Spain opened a museum dedicated to Sephardic Jews who
lived there pre-Inquisition. The Museum is called the "Palace of the
Forgotten" and is housed in the Santa Ines Palace in Albaicin-a neighborhood
within Granada where many Jews lived before 1492. While only a handful of
Jews live Andalucia-the region of Spain where Granada is located, historians
estimate a former Jewish population of 5,000-20,000.

Earlier this month, Spain's ruling party submitted a bill which would make
Jewish descendants of Sephardic Jews who were forced into exile eligible for
Spanish citizenship.
Portugal's parliament unanimously passed a similar law in April.

Polish and Yiddish translations requested for two postings #lodz #poland

Diane Sophrin

Hello all,

I've just posted two documents, for which I'd very much appreciate as
direct a translation as possible.

The first is a document in Polish, the birth certificate of my
great-grandmother BALBINA BLIME FUKS, signed by her father SZLAMA FUKS.
I am particularly interested in any information and/or names which might
be gleaned >from this document.
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM30455

The second is a re-posted text in Yiddish. I'm looking for any further
possible clarification regarding the identity of those mentioned as
being in the photo versus the writer himself. This Yiddish text is
ViewMate 30034 and can be found at the following link:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/responselist.asp?key=30034

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application. I find
it more helpful to have all responses saved and visible on ViewMate!

I thank you all in advance for any and all help offered,

Those Who Made A Difference: 2500 Years Of Family History
Sunday, January 12, 2014, Holocaust Memorial Center, 11:00 AM

With author and JGSMI member Richard Jaeger
Over the course of twenty years of research, over 27,800 family members
spanning over 2500 years were discovered and put into a database. While
putting all of them into a family history would be an impossible task, some
were of enough historical importance to deserve to be included; others had
stories of interest, though not in the class of an Eleanor of Aquitaine,
still were noteworthy of inclusion.

from Xerxes I, King of Persia and married to the Biblical Esther, Hadassah
to Elizabeth II of England there were links to the same family. Included
were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Robert E. Lee who were all
cousins. Their stories and how they related to maternal and paternal family
of the author make for both fascinating reading as well as good cause to
believe in the idea of six degrees of separation as it relates to genealogy.

Richard "Dick" Jaeger was born in New York and is a product of the New York
City School System and the City University of New York where he got is BA in
1963. In 1971 he completed graduate work in Commercial and Insurance Law and
Risk Management. For most of his working life he was an International
Political Risks Analyst. In 1993 he began to research his family history in
a project that still continues today. Dick is a frequent speaker at genealogy
society meetings in Michigan and active in societies in various states and
Great Britain. Dick is married to the former Caryn Brodie and they have three
sons and five grandchildren.

Hello GerSig, #germany

Jean-Frederic Teplitxky <j.teplitxky@...>

Hello GerSig,
I just joined the group. I have been doing genealogy research for
5 or 6 years. I consider myself to be a beginner in doing German
Jewish Genealogy research.

I live in rural near Poitiers or Limoges in France. My native language
is French and I also know a little english and german. I consider myself
intermediate in using a computer. My experience in using the Internet
is also intermediate.

I have identified the names and birth and death dates of my
grandparents, some of my great grandparents and the death dates of
my back maternal grandfather. But I do not know either the date or
the place of his birth, or the first name and the surname of his wife.

My primary research goals now are to find out: The exact date of the
death of this man in Leipzig.
His name was =AWERBACH (or AVERBACH, AUERBACH). His first name
Israel. He lived Lortzingstrasse 3, in Leipzig in 1900, (Kaufmann
Rauchwaarenhndlng Bruehl 69 Leipzig).
After 1904, my grandparents (Berka AWERBACH and Golda GORDON) left Leipzig.
In 1906, my grandmother Marie AWERBACH married Leizor TEPLIZKI to
Zurich, but I ignore or lived the family.

In 1913, Golda GORDON is installed (settled) with his children (Marie,
Elka and Ludwig) in Paris, 6 street Tournefort.

Golda Gordon is hotel. My father Boris was born in 1913 in Paris.
So I look for the date and for the place of the death of
Berka AWERBACH doubtless between 1904 and 1913, maybe in Switzerland
to Zurich. I also look for the brother or for the sister of Berka AWERBACH,
for Ruchem AWERBACH who left Leipzig in 1903. He or she lived at the
same address as his father Israel
Lortzingstrasse 3, in Leipzig in 1900, (I AWERBACH und Sohn, Bruehl 69,
Leipzig).

My JGFF Researcher ID number is 481946 .

The family names and ancestral towns that I have entered in the
JewishGen Family Finder) are:
Auerbach Leipzig Germany, Auerbach Moskva Russia, Auerbach Paris
Gordon London, Gordon Moskva Russia, Ostrowsky,Korsun Shevchenkovskiy
Ukraine, Pianetti Paris, Teplitzky Korsun Shevchenkovskiy Ukraine
Teplitzky Paris France

Moderator note: Welcome to GerSIG.
All GerSIG members new and old, please remember: The family names
(like AUERBACH, GORDON etc.) should be typed with ALL CAPITAL LETTERS
in email to our Forum. Wouldn't the list above be easier to understand
that way ? Also, please remember that our system does not understand
accent marks in your text. Please do not use them. Zurich (u umlaut)
must be written: Zuerich.

Dear Genners,

In one of the birth certificate of my uncles, its been written like this "
Father: Mortka WACHSTOK, permanent inhabitant of town Warta, owner of German
passport issued December 1, 1915"

I would really like to get help >from my dear friends hear, on two questions
that I got,

1. Is all this must be true? Since the date 1915 he was less than twenty
years old and it doesn't really make since, and if it so, perhaps if someone
knows how to instruct me how can I get a photograph of the certificate or
other details about that passport
