Seeking SCHULHOF and HOLLERING from Berlin > UK #germany

Christian LAURANSON-ROSAZ <laurosaz@...>

Martina Thomson-Mayne (1925-2013), recently dead, was a great lady in
the artistic domain, like her husband, David Thomson, journalist and
writer. She was my daughter in law's grandmother.

See my genealogical tree at:

http://gw.geneanet.org/laurosaz?lang=fr&m=NG&fn=&sn=THOMSON&v=

Her original name was Ana Maria Magdalena SCHULHOF, then MAYNE, then
THOMSON. She had a necrologic article in The Guardian, October 8th :

http://www.theguardian.com/theguardian/2013/oct/08/martina-thomson-obituary

I'm seeking information about her family >from Germany and
Austria and installed in UK before the Holocaust. Her paternal
familiy was SCHULHOF, >from Berlin, and HOLLERING, Berlin.

How to find her birth-act, Berlin 1925 March 5th?

How to find the acts of her parents? :

- Eric SCHULHOF, born c. 1887, dead 1947 Croydon, Surrey, UK

- Magdalena HOLLERING, SUTTON-MAYNE, born 1899 JUL 14 Baden nier

Finding Missing Family in Britain: GREEN #general

Paul Mayerowitz <pmgeneology@...>

My grandfather had three brothers. All four emigrated >from Nowy Dwor, Poland
to Great Britain. We believe their names prior to emigration were MORTKOWITZ
(?). In England, Herschel wanted to be an actor and he changed his name to
Harry GREEN and the remaining brothers also changed their name. There is a
famous British actor Harry Green but he is not our relative. Max and Hyman
emigrated to the United States.

We believe that one of their sons in England was Paul Green but given the
number of Green/Greene's it is very hard to find the right one.

I have the following details >from his Declaration of Intention for Max
GREEN.

I was born in Nowidwor, Russia-Poland about the 1st day of May, anno Domini
1887; I now reside at 1015 Cookman Avenue, Asbury Park, New jersey. I
emigrated to the United States of America >from London, England, on the
vessel Cairnrona, thence by rail to Montreal and New York; my last foreign
residence was London, England.

My question is how do I track down the missing family in London.

Gevir--Louis Rockmaker #lithuania

Additional clues to Louis ROCKMAKER's ancestral town and original surname
include:
~ Son Morris' WWI draft registration birthplace Gezna or Yezna, Vilna,
Russia. Abraham's WWII birthplace Russian village, Russia.
~ Hamburg Passenger Lists, 1850-1934 in Ancestry search results include
ROCKMAKER and ROCKMACHER departures. Freide and Jankel ROCKMACHER (1 Sep

JewishGen Gazetteer/Jewish Communities <

~ Jieznas, Lithuania - alternate names Yezne (Yiddish), Ezno (Rus), Jezno

town was Ezno in Troki district of Vilna province, Russian Empire before
WWI, then Jieznas in Alytus district of Lithuania, and is located at
coordinates 5436/2410, 31 miles W of Trakai (Troki), 15 miles NNE of Alytus
(Olita) and 46.3 miles W of Vilnius. The Jewish population of Jieznas in
1866 was 170.
~ Gevir could be a tiny village. The closest possibility seems to be Gaure
(Gaures, Gavraytse, Gavry), Lithuania located at 5515/2228, 119.4 miles WNW

Jewish community.
~ Sakiai, Lithuania formerly Szaki in Wladyslawow district, Suwalki

Looking for Gitl Chajkowski-Plac from Bialystok #poland

Johannes Kuber <johannes.kuber@...>

Dear fellow researchers,

I am currently volunteering at Yad Vashem; my main task is to gather
information about the Bialystok Massacre (27 June 1941) for a teaching
unit that will eventually be published by the International School for
Holocaust Studies. In the Bialystoker Memorial Book
(http://www.zchor.org/bialystok/yizkor6.htm), a woman by the name of
Gitl Chajkowski-Plac is mentioned who apparently saved 60 Jewish
orphans at the early stages of Nazi rule in Bialystok ("Disregarding
danger, Gitl Chajkowski-Plac saved sixty Jewish orphans and became
their substitute mother. She hid them in a cellar, where they remained
throughout the early days of the Nazi invasion of Bialystok."). This
case is of great interest for our project; however, this is the only
mention of this brave woman I have found anywhere. I would be grateful
for any information that could point me in the right direction, also
regarding the fate of the orphans' home.

I would also appreciate any suggestions on how to find survivors'
testimonies that specifically mention the events of 27 June 1941.

Thank you so much for your help!

Best regards >from Jerusalem
