Translation request - ViewMate - Handwritten German letter 1935 Re: vital records #germany

John Paul Lowens <jplowens@...>

I've posted a letter in German for which I need a translation.
It is on ViewMate at the following address ...
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM29869

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application or by
email to JPL25@Cornell.edu
I can provide a larger scan of the document if necessary.

As part of the preparations for leaving Germany, my father and his
family took steps to obtain transcripts of the vital records of their
Loewenstein ancestors in Breckenheim and Wallau near Wiesbaden. I have
the resulting record transcripts of:
1818 Marriage - Loeb / Levi Salomon Lowenstein & Rose Lazarus
1822 Birth- Eleasar ben Loeb Loewenstein
1839 Death Lob Lowenstein (both O with umlaut)
1850 Marriage Eleasar Lowenstein & Zerline Moses
Those records are probably mentioned in this letter. The 1935 record
transcriptions are stamped and signed "Brum".
Herr Brum was probably an archivist or archive official or employee.

I just found this letter in the 1935 file folder containing the record
transcripts. It's part of the history of my family's search for our
history. A translation will be very greatly appreciated.

Families HERMAN, BEARMAN & SCHNEIDER in New York, USA #general

Daniel Gleek

I recently appealed to find descendants of Leah & Sam HERMAN.
Thanks to genners' efforts, some progress has been made here.

I now know the HERMANs had four kids, all born in London:
1902 - Solly, who married Mary
1904 - Johnny, who married Celia
1906 - Abraham, who married Frieda
1909 - Martha, who (if she married) wed after 1940

Leah's maiden name was SCHNEIDER and her siblings were:

Alexander SCHNEIDER who married a Leah.
Kids: Sol, Sam (born London) and Michael, Rosie (born NY)
Sol's children were Leonard and Adele (now in their late 80s)

and

Anna SCHNEIDER who married Adron BEARMAN
Kids: Saul, Herman (born London) and Sophia, Jack (born NY)
Herman's children were Natalie and Edward (now in their late 80s)

I am interested in finding the children/grandchildren of:

Leonard/Len/Lenny SCHNEIDER of New York. He would now be 90.
Edward BEARMAN of New York. He would now be about 84.

Please reply privately - hopefully these people are on your tree!

Thank you,

Mordechai Shmuel STERN of Stramtura and Petrova #general

ekreal10@...

Hello Genners:

I was told (family lore) that my mother's great-great grandfather,
Mordechai Shmuel STERN born in Stramtura was the son of Reb Yitzchok (Itzikele)
STERN of Stramtura in Maramures, Romania. However, her other
great-great-grandfather was Shmuel STERN who we know for sure is the son of Reb.
Yitzchok.

I have seen both these names on many family trees leading one to assume that
they were brothers. My question is does anyone know how 2 supposed brothers
came to have the same name (Shmuel)? Or is Mordechai Shmuel in fact a grandson
of Reb Yitzchok STERN of Stramtura? In that case who is his father?

This question has been haunting our family for years and I have hit a
brick wall. Maybe someone out there would have the answer.

Thank you

THANKS - Re: Robert W. Gutman - Opera critic- Seeking obituary and family history #germany

John Paul Lowens <jplowens@...>

Many thanks to my brilliant colleagues Jeanette Rosenberg (GerSIG
Director) and Renee Steinig (JGS of Long Island Director) for your
help in solving a 50-year-old family history mystery.

This is a wonderful GerSIG success story.

Much of my genealogy research is based on work with my grandmother,
Belle STRAUS Weil, that began in the 1950s. In 1964, I tape recorded a
45 minute interview that's preserved much of what Grandmother Belle
had told me over the years.

There was a lot of information. My grandmother's grandmother, Binchen
STRAUS Kupfer, lived in grandma's home for the first 20 years of the
granddaughter's life. >from her German born grandmother, my "Arkansas
Granny" learned about the family's roots in Kaiserslautern and
Udenheim, Germany. She remembered most of it, told it to me, and I've
been expanding and documenting those family stories most of my life.
I've found very few fact errors in what Grandmother told me. One of
the few errors confounded my search for my STRAUS and GUTMAN double
cousins >from Nuernberg.

My STRAUS and GUTMAN relatives have been listed in the JGFF for many years.
Before I knew better, I added a "Researching......." list to all my
JGDG email. Those names and towns were in the list and remain in the
JGDG and GerSIG archives.

But not until my GerSIG Forum inquiry about this family yesterday did
I find these long sought cousins.

The phenomenal recent expansion of Internet resources has enabled us
to bring billions - maybe trillions - of vital records onto our
smartphones and monitors for viewing anywhere, any time. But not all of us
have the patience, practice and professionalism needed to work with
all that information efficiently.

It's an honor for me to work as a volunteer with colleagues like
Jeanette and Renee who are masters of the art. Thank you both. This
puzzle has been solved.
