New 2014 Education Syllabus on JewishGen #germany

Phyllis Kramer

Times change and JewishGen family genealogists are becoming more
genealogically experienced, more sophisticated at researching major
web sites.

We have revised our syllabus to reach what we believe are the
requirements of our Genners. As of 2014, the following classes will be
taught on a rotating schedule:

Basic 1 -- Search Strategies
Basic 2 -- Exploring JewishGen
Basic 3 -- Getting Organized
Basic 4 -- Cite your Sources

These targeted courses will be available at no charge to those
entitled to JewishGen's Value Added Services (having donated $100 to
the JewishGen General Fund within the preceding 12 months).

We will continue to teach Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced
interactive courses with Forums where students can get personal
assistance >from their instructors; we also feature Mark Heckman's
annual KehilaLinks class.

See our Course Listings (www.JewishGen.org/education) for details
about the courses, the instructors, the dates and the requirements.

New 2014 Education Syllabus on JewishGen #poland

Phyllis Kramer

Times change and JewishGen family genealogists are becoming more
genealogically experienced, more sophisticated at researching major
web sites.

We have revised our syllabus to reach what we believe are the
requirements of our Genners. As of 2014, the following classes will be
taught on a rotating schedule:

Basic 1 -- Search Strategies
Basic 2 -- Exploring JewishGen
Basic 3 -- Getting Organized
Basic 4 -- Cite your Sources

These targeted courses will be available at no charge to those
entitled to JewishGen's Value Added Services (having donated $100 to
the JewishGen General Fund within the preceding 12 months).

We will continue to teach Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced
interactive courses with Forums where students can get personal
assistance >from their instructors; we also feature Mark Heckman's
annual KehilaLinks class.

See our Course Listings (www.JewishGen.org/education) for details
about the courses, the instructors, the dates and the requirements.

MODERATOR'S NOTE: It's important to remember that Jewish Records
Indexing-Poland is an independent organization. Our JRI-Poland database,
website and discussion group are "hosted" by JewishGen, but each
organization has its own, separate administrative and fundraising
structure.

MODERATOR'S NOTE: It's important to remember that Jewish Records
Indexing-Poland is an independent organization. Our JRI-Poland database,
website and discussion group are "hosted" by JewishGen, but each
organization has its own, separate administrative and fundraising
structure.

Plock Books of Residents extraction project #poland

Tony Hausner

On behalf of Jewish Records Indexing - Poland, I am pleased to announce
the resumption of indexing/extracting of the Jewish entries in the Books
of Residents for the city of Plock. Books of Residents are house by
house census documents that were updated on an ongoing basis over time
and recorded all the people living in the house, moving in or departing.

Each entry includes Name, Surname, Father's Name, Mother's Name,
Date and Place of Birth and Occupation. In some cases, the Date of Death,
Marriage, draft status or other notes are included.

For a full description of Books of Residents, go to
http://jri-poland.net/bor.htm

The latest batch of Plock data has now arrived, adding another 2,500
entries to the 1,500 completed in 2006. The 1,500 entries can be searched
online in the JRI-Poland database. Work is proceeding on a street by street
basis (alphabetically) and Aleje to Koegialna streets are now included.
It is estimated there will be entries for about 20,000 to 25,000
individuals in the completed database, a goldmine of information for
families living in Plock for many decades.

Years of birth go back as far as 1786! The 4,000 entries to date
include 1,650 distinct surnames or variations of surnames. In addition
to Plock, there are 265 towns mentioned as places of birth for Plock
residents, typically for women who were born in another town and settled
in Plock with their husbands, or grooms >from other towns who took up
residence with their brides' families. This is an important source of
information for following the paper trail of an ancestor. Surname and
town frequency lists and a sample Excel file are available upon request.

Additional batches of data will be placed online as funding for each
batch has been completed. However, researchers making a qualifying
contribution of $200 or more will be eligible to obtain a new Excel
file with all data completed to date as it becomes available and all
subsequent files until the project has been completed.

Contributions to "Jewish Records Indexing - Poland" may be made by check,
bank draft, money order, or Visa or MasterCard. The web site
http://jri-poland.org/support.htm explains how to contribute.
Please mark your contribution for "Plock Books of Residents".

I will also need volunteers to help with this project. For further
information on this project, please do not hesitate to contact me.
