Hungarian Town: ALSZONFA (?) #hungary

seth.morgulas@...

Hello,
I am researching the family of Julie STEINER b. 1828 in Hungary or Slovkia and her husband Mortiz HILVERT b. 1820 in Hungary or Slovakia and found what I think is the correct family for Julie STEINER. However, the Jewishgen.org index lists the town as Alszonfa in Gyor County, Hungary. I have been unable to find that town in Jewishgen.org's town finder database and I have not found it with google or by looking at the municipalities in Gyor or neighboring Nitra, Slovakia. Does anyone know what the correct/current name of this town or know what county it might currently be in?

Thank you.

Hungarian rabbinical genealogy in Knesset debate #hungary

mehadrin@...

Newspapers announced recently that in debate in the Israeli Knesset =
(Parliament) Rabbi Menachem Mozes, a member representing the orthodox =
Aguda party, lectured the very successful rising politician Yair Lapid =
(who favors limiting special dispensations for the orthodox). "You come =
from the same background as I do, your great-grandfather was also a =
Vizhnitzer chassid. Your grandfather David Giladi, was born David Klein =
in Hungary, and his father was Rav Shlomo Zalman Klein, a Vishnitzer =
chassid. His grandfather was the famed Rabbi Shmuel Shmelke Klein, rabbi =
of Selesh, whose book Tzror HaChaim is studied by yeshiva students until =
this day."
Who would have thought Hungarian rabbinical genealogy would become part =
of political debate in parliament! Only in ISrael.

a good source for placenames is the 1882 gazetteer of hungary at bogardi.com.

it lists a place in the gonci jaras of abauj-torna megye, as "rege'ci
3 huta" (sic), which is close enough, but seems to contain a typo.
(the wikipedia entry for "huta" says that it means glassworks or
foundry in slavic languages, and is a common toponym in several
countries, in this case, slovakia.)

newer hungarian spelling uses just "c" instead of the older "cz", and
i'm only guessing that it should really be a single "t", because
there are several places containing that suffix (?), and none listed
with a double "t".

google maps, and I can't seem to find it there either.

Does anyone know if there is an alternate name for this town, and
where Regeczi Hutta is currently located? Where would this town be
included in the Hungarian Census's?

Regeczi Hutta #hungary

j.kovacs@...

As you state your relative is registered in Tolcsva as this is a larger town.

According today's Hungarian map not far >from Tolcsva there is an area called
Zemlem Tajvedelmi Korzet and therein are three locations where your relatives
may have lived called: Regec, and possibly Ohuta and Haromhuta.

Bad Windsheim DP Camp #germany

I am looking for information about the Bad Windsheim DP camp in Bavaria.
Where exactly was it situated and near which Jewish community. I am looking
for a cemetery in the vicinity which may have been used for people who died
in this camp. Hoping someone can help me. Many thanks,

I suspect that the handwriting might be a bit difficult to read and "Hutta"
is actually Utca (street).
