Help reading name on manifest #general

Fran Segall

I am unable to read the surname of the person whom my grandfather
was coming to join. It was his uncle, Joseph something-or-other. The
business name was Asher something-or-other Tailors in Springfield, MA.
I would appreciate some help reading this. The link to the Viewmate file is:

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM26780

He lived in Springfield, MA so a 1902 business directory
might be helpful.

Thanks!

Hoping to Identity of Yiddish Actor on Viewmate #general

Mady Land <madyland@...>

Hello Genners,

A family photograph of a Canadian couple with an unknown man
has us stumped.

We know the couple are Harry and Sonia Gedeger >from Winnipeg, Canada,
but are hoping to identify the tall man on the left of the photo.

Family members believe he is a well-known actor of Yiddish theater,
(either in New York or in Canada).

We don't know when it was taken, but clothing and hairstyles
suggest the 1940s or 1950s?

If anyone can identify the actor, we would be grateful.

I've posted it on Viewmate at:

Re: Two SICHEL sisters from Cologne > USA #germany

David Seldner

I think that SICHEL is a relatively common surname. One branch in my
ancestry was >from Schluechtern (or Fulda, maybe 20 miles apart) and the
other one >from Kassel. They were related (being cousins). It already
happened to me twice that I met people to whom I am (very distantly) related
to through the SICHEL family!

Some of the Sichels married 3 KATZENBERGERt brothers (>from Massbach), who
then all lived in Nuremberg. And there are legends in the family that there
is connection to the British royalty via the Sichel family, but no one knows
details. If anyone here can provide me with advice on that, I'd be very grateful.

Regards and Happy Passover, David Seldner, Karlsruhe, Germany seldner@gmx.net

Surnames are the most obvious search. I have done searches using
house number with street name only, to see if relatives with different
surnames are at the same location.
Also, entering some business names might turn up other community members
who worked at the same company.
