Stolin KehilaLinks site updated in honor of the 70th yahrzeit of its Jewish community #ukraine

Adina Lipsitz <adina.lipsitz@...>

The yahrzeit of the Jewish community of Stolin occurs every year on
the eve of Rosh HaShana (the 29th of Elul) This year it falls on
September 16th of the civil calendar. On that day, 70 years ago, 8,000
members of the Jewish community of Stolin and the surrounding towns,
some in Ukraine, were marched into a ditch in the nearby forest and
murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators.

In honor of the yahrzeit, the Stolin KehilaLinks coordinators announce
the creation of a new section for the Stolin website about the Shoah
in Stolin, Belarus --
http://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/stolin/shoah.php

Included are eyewitness accounts, memorial transcriptions, yizkor book
translations, as well as information about victims, perpetrators, and
heroes. We would like to ask you to join us in remembering the lives
of the individuals, families and the community that once existed, so
that they may not be forgotten.

My posting of a couple of days ago Sara KATZENSTEIN and her father #germany

Joseph Fibel

I'm one of the original subscribers to Gersig. In the early days, I made many
postings.

I have made great progress with my wife, Harriet's Polish, Belarusan and
Lithuanian families but much less so with my own families even though I have
found wonderful German websites for my mother's Hessen family.

I was following a lead on my gggrandfather Mannes KATZENSTEIN in Frankenau,
Hessen which seemed to be going nowhere when I decided to post my information
onto Gersig.

The response was overwhelming. I got the answer I had been waiting for from
Steven Leof in England and Rishy Savin. In addition, much additional
KATZENSTEIN family information was included

Almost immediately after this, I received another reply >from researcher
Helen Freed, who has been very successfully researching my grandmother's
brother's family and has a huge tree for this branch. I was able to
give her information I had and she shared hers with me.

I cannot stress enough, the necessity of researchers, both novice and
experienced to post their carefully worded questions on Gersig.
Even if you have posted similar inquiries previously, do it again
after some time has elapsed. That's why our SIGs exist.

Good Luck and L'Shanah Tovah to all our cousins and friends.

Joe Fibel New Rochelle, NY or as two of my SIG friends say,-suburban NY
