Seeking information on Henoch KAC (KATZ) (prob. born between 1860-1880) who came to the US between 1904-1915 from Hoshcha (Hoszcza/Goshcha), Ukraine. He died crossing picket line--he probably didn’t know the language enough to know not to cross it. Per family lore, this happened in/around Boston and widow received compensation back home Family in Europe did not immigrate to the US. Henoch may have stayed with brother-in-law and sister-in-law. The maiden name of the sister-in-Law was Zeigermakher. Possible connection to a Max Nathan Silberman. I can't find strike, insurance company, union involved, death record or burial place. Any help or hints would be appreciated.

I would suggest to try this Hungarian database https://hungaricana.hu/en/ under "archives". Searching on the family name of my grandfather I found several court records for his brother, who was arrested for fraud. This huge Hungarian database is really a "gold mine" for genealogy. Alberto: I know that I probably sound like a cynic but before you give this man further information ask him how he found you and what he already knows. Also, did you post a page of testimony on Yad Vashem? I would also think that if he wants people to post information on Yad Vashem he would also have gotten in touch with them. I am not saying he is not a "real person" but these days we all need to be careful about what personal or family information we sometimes release and I have been doing genealogical research for a long time so I welcome new information when I can get it. Need your help identifying Family Member's Country of Origin -

As many of you may know, us Jews come from "Russia" and Russia was a big place now scattered into many countries. Unfortunately, I have a document from a family member, and I have been unable to identify where he was born. The city appears unreadable to me. There 2 links are documents I am 100% certain belong to him.
Link 1 Photo is marriage license. His name was Solomon Sherman and he married Sophie Carp (originally Krupnik) in 1916. Solomon lists his parents as Morris Sherman and Ida Hoffman. I am told his Morris might have been called (Moshe or similar spelling). I see on Ancestry that Sherman has several variations (Szerman, Sherman, etc) Link 2 Photo is Solomon Sherman's registration card. The city where he was born appears to not exist or be illegible aside from Russia. This is where I need your help! Where was Solomon Sherman Born? Link High Resolution Registration Card The 1920 Census lists Solomon Sherman arriving in the USA in 1913 and Russian. Profession Shoe Maker. Below are "Speculative" Documents I found at Ellis Island Website that May or May Not be him! Have yet to find documents corroborating the Parents of this Solomon Sherman.

My great great grandmother was Cyza Malka Muskatenblit (shortens to Muskat) who was born in Rajgrod in Lomza Gubernia in NE Poland (on borders with Lithuania). She married Leib Guttenberg of Rajgrod and their son Aaron Berko Guttenberg (my great grandfather) came to Hull, England in c 1865 with his wife and baby daughter to escape the Tsar's draft.

R. Meir Margolies from Ostrog

My gr-gr-grandfather was R. Yehudah Yudel Rosenberg (1860-1935), originally from Skaryszew, Poland, but more famously from Montreal, Canada. His first wife (from who I am descended) was named Chaya Chava (D. 1886). A book written for R. Rosenberg's 70th birthday states that Chaya Chava was descended from the Ostrovtzer
Rebbe, R. Leibush Zucker and was a grand-child of the Ostrovtzer Rebbe, R.
Meir, the son of R. Hertzkes. I have had a very difficult time trying to identify these rabbis. My current theory is that the R. Meir the son of R. Hertzkes was R. Meir Margolies ben R. Tzvi Hirsh, the rabbi of Ostrog ("Ostroh") from 1777-1790. He is a R. Meir the son of a R. Hirsh who could be the Ostrovtzer Rebbe. I haven't been able to find any other rabbis from a town named Ost***** with a R. Meir the son of a R. Hirsh. Additional support from my theory comes from the fact that Chaya Chava's maiden name was Zusman and there was a well-known Zusman family in Ostrog. I have no idea who the R. Leibush Zucker might be, but I have confirmed that Chaya Chava's maiden name was Zucker. There is a geni profile for R. Meir Margolies but there is little about his descendants on that site. Has anyone ever seen descendants from this rabbi with the last name Zucker or Zysman? I haven't yet gone through Meir Vunder's or Neil Rosenstein's books on the Margolies families, but I am planning a trip to the New York library. Any help would be appreciated. Todd Brody

I have received a very polite mail from a gentleman in South Africa. He says he found my decesased aunt's name and my name posting her Page of Testimony at Yad Vashem. He requests further info on her with the project of posting it on his Facebook page. The gentleman says if thousands of people would do the same, a fair homage would be made. I googled the man's name and email and it corresponds to a real human being in South Africa. Has anyone had a similar experience ? I will welcome any comments. think it’s impaction with torsion (of the colon) which cuts of blood supply to part of the intestine ollowed by paralysis of bowels.
