Yitzchak LAZAROV- England-Jerusalem #general

Yonatan Ben-Ari

According to family stories, my great greatgrandmother, Gitel
ABRAMOWITZ, married (second marriage for both) and British man by the
name of Yitzchak LAZAROV. This widower had 12 children (>from his first
wife/wives) and came to Jerusalem to find a "Shiduch". He seems to
have been wealthy (at least in relative term for the Orthodox Jewish
community of the turn of the century) and they lived in the Meah
Shearim area.

According to this source, Yitzchak lent a very large sum of money to a
faltering Yeshiva in the Old City and after the Yeshiva went bankrupt
and could not repay the loan he had a heart attack (and/or depression)
and passed away.

Anyone on this list knowledgeable of the above story and can add any
other details, preferably about my ancestress.

Shabbat Shalom

The larger shtetls have yizkor books. The small ones have very little
if anything. I have attempted to write something about Uscie Biscupie.

I would like to write something about Kudrynce. If anybody has

we probably never received it. Please resend (as Ervin has done).

New addition to the LitvakSIG Collective Data site #lithuania

Russ Maurer

LitvakSIG is very pleased to add a new section to its Collective Data
site, "Jews repressed during the first Soviet Occupation of Lithuania,
June 1940-June 1941." During the Soviet occupation, Lithuanians were
subjected to repressive measures targeted at supposed "anti-Soviet
elements". Repression included arrests and deportations, including an
intense deportation action >from June 14-18, 1941, during which some
17,000 individuals were deported to Siberia. Commonly, when men were
sent to a prison camp, their families were sent into Siberian exile at
a separate location. Jews were caught up in the repression in numbers
approximately proportional to their population.

In 1999, the Genocide and Resistance Research Center of Lithuania
(LGGRC by its Lithuania acronym) published the names and other
information about 30,461 repressed individuals gleaned >from a variety
of sources (Lietuvos Gyventoju Genocidas, 1939-1941, Vol. 1, B.
Burauskaite, ed.). This list is reported to include the names of 2,613
Jews. Subsequently, Galina Zhirikova of the Lithuanian Holocaust
Museum took the Jewish names and information >from the LGGRC list and
made them into a separate list. This list is available in Lithuanian
at http://media.search.lt/getfile.php?OID=265380&FID=774974.

LitvakSIG received permission to translate and database this list,
which we are pleased to make available. It contains 2606 lines, but a
slightly smaller number of individuals because of a handful of
duplicate listings under different variations of a person's name.
Apparently, it includes nearly all the Jews in the LGGRC list. Typical
entries include the name, sometimes the maiden name, name of the
father, age, relationship to the head of family, where the person had
been living, and their fate. Each entry is annotated with one or more
codes giving the source of the information. A list of the codes in
included in the "Information and Codes" tab of the spreadsheet.

Sharp-eyed readers may spot the name of a future Prime Minister of
Israel in the list.

HOW TO ACCESS THE LIST OF REPRESSED JEWS NOW

1. You must be a current donor to any of our district/gubernia
research groups, OR make a new qualifying donation.

2. Go to LitvakSIG.org and log in using your usual username and password.

3. Click on "Collective Data" >from your dashboard drop-down menu.

4. Click on the "Data" tab in the Collective Data site.

Nowy Sacz and Schachne Roessler #poland

yrossler4@...

Schachne Roessler was born in 1850 and listed in the 1870 census,
recently added to the JRI database, as single. This happens to be my
greatgrand father name. He, apparently, was born in Nowy Sacz
according to my aunt. This is not verified however. I am trying to
verify that the man listed in the 1870 census is actually my
greatgrand father. I will therfore appreciated any additional
information such a parents names and siblings, profession and any
other piece of info available.

Thanks

Whence Came The COHN/ABRAMOWITZ Family? #general

Marvin Lauwasser <marvlauw@...>

Morris Cohn married Trina/Tillie Abramowitz and settled, with other
relatives, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I ended up wed to their
granddaughter, Marlene.

They arrived >from somewhere in eastern Europe but we've never
established the specific town.
There has been a plethora of town origin results in our searches.

1920 census Morris & Trina (as Tillie) Cohn ..birthplace: "Koronsky"
husband Morris Cohn (as Moishe Kagan) arrived NYC on the SS Blaucher
21aug1904..Brasew
Trina Cohn (as Treine Koln) arrived NYC on the SS Vaderland
03apr1905..Rastonsbresie

In 2018 I submitted an image of the Ketuba, establishing the wedding
date as 17feb1904 but again got only an inexact guess of the
community. That Viewmate is archived as #69563. And yes, both of
their fathers were Kohanim.

other relatives of Trina:
brother Leiser Abramowitz arrived via Quebec on the SS Lake Champlain
9jan1903..Russia
sister-in-law Mere Abramowicz with 4 kids arrived NYC on the SS
Potsdam 9jun1908..Kossowe, Grodno
brother Moische Abramowitz arrived NYC 27dec1911 on the SS Ryndaur
(sp?)..Lubisetz, Grodno
sister Rose Abramowitz arrived NYC on the Kroonland 18jul1911..Grodek (sp?)

Kossowe would now be Kosava, Belarus. None of the others are findable.

I'm sure there are many of you, far smarter than me, who might
recognize these locations as real and even had a Jewish population.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Marvin Lauwasser
