LDS Stuttgart - help pls. #germany

nigel wilson

Dear genners.

I am working with a friend in Stuttgart on a family history of mutual
interest.

I found reference on the LDS site to a great-grandmother b. 1853 in Frankfurt
and death date too. Wanting to either purchase or view these records
we approached the LDS centre in Stuttgart. However the information given
on the site does not give a film number, only a Batch no.
How are we to obtain the records? - here is the response >from the LDS centre
(translated >from the German)

" Unfortunately we are not able to identify the film corresponding to the
batch number, since it has not been indicated. Maybe you can find more
information >from the records on marriage and death about the churches
involved in registration, so that then we could eventually release the
film order via internet through the church book film order"

Can anyone advise us where to go >from here? Thank you in anticipation.

Hi Genners,

I posted an 1873 death notice >from Somos Hungary to Viewmate:

I'm just trying to get a translation (deciphering?) on one word. It
begins with what looks like 'Hund'-something. Would really appreciate

Need help with Yiddish inscription from back of photo #general

Ted Gostin

I have uploaded to ViewMate a Yiddish inscription >from the back of a family photo,
and would be grateful if someone fluent in Yiddish can take a look and let me know
what this says. My Yiddish capability is simply insufficient to handle an extended
block of text like this. I can make out a few words here and there, but I can't
accurately translate the whole thing.

The text was >from the back of an ORDIS family photo (family >from Radomysl). The

FALK in Wronke (and COHEN in Berlin) #germany

Allan Falk <allan@...>

I am seeking any possible information about any relatives on my grandfather
Wolf (Wilhelm) FALK´s side. The little I know is the following:

His father: Jonas FALK, merchant in Wronke, born about 1825,
died 03.June.1884in Wronke
His Mother: Amalia FALK, born LOEWENTHAL, born 14.April.1844, dead 25.01.1927,
buried in Berlin (Weissensee)
Brother: Michael FALK, born 09.02.1880 in Wronke
Sister: Hedwig FALK, born 22.07.1876 in Wronke
Sister: Sara FALK, born 07.07.1877 in Wronke

Brother: Hermann Falk, tailor in Berlin, Koepenickerstrasse 36/38 at the
time of his mothers death
Nephew: Julius FALK, son of Hermann FALK, living with his father at
the time of his grandmothers death

I have found Hermann, his wife Liesa, Julius, his wife Josephine and their
2 children Siegfried and Ingeborg on Pages of Testimony in the Yad Vashem
database, but I am not sure, that these persons are my relatives, as the
birthplace and date of Hermann does not correspond with the documents I
received >from Wronke.

Similarly I would be glad to hear >from you if the following persons are
familiar to you:

Simon COHN, born about 1851, living in Berlin, witness to my grandparents
wedding 04.08.1900 in Berlin and most likely a brother of my father´s
mother´s mother Rosa Preis, born COHN, born 11.01.1849 in New York.

Georg COHN, born about 1856, likewise witness at my grandparent´s wedding
and possibly another brother of Rosa PREIS born COHN.

If any of these persons are familiar to you I would be happy
to hear >from you.

Hello,
My grandparents names were Temkin and Byk. They came to the U.S.
early in the 1900's and settled in Providence, R.I.
We are putting together a family tree and there is a family bible
that we would love to locate. It may be in Israel. My grandfather
was Herseh Byk and his father Szymon Byk. They were >from the
Bug River area, Proskurow or Podolsky. The Temkins were >from Lubitsh.
Other names are Basha Devorah Bolotow and Eta Nissenbaum.
There was a rumor that someone in the family had the family bible
and it would be very nice to know if there is any family history within it.

Thank you,
Ruth Beck

Seeking info about names of Lodz ghetto victims #poland

Avigdor Ben-Dov <avigdorbd@...>

I am preparing a complete list for the left P-IV sector (and more) of
the Lodz ghetto cemetery where these victims were buried
in the early 40's during "actions" in the ghetto. Are there any
researchers out there who can identify with any of the
following surnames to give me a father's name (and the source) to be
consistent with my other data which shows only the father's name?
Only the mother's name, apparently, is listed in the Lodz ghetto
burials, as given below. I was able to track one name after about two
hours of research work on JewishGen and JRI-PL and discovered
information on the father of a victim and his mother and sister, but
that's all. Interestingly enough, the Polish government published the
name of the father as a survivor seeking family after the war so there
may be living relatives for some of these victims.

My goal is to recover as many names as I can for remembrance and for
future generations to know their ancestors and Jewish roots in Poland.
Thanks for any help in this quest as it is a big job just to organize
the data for over 500 names in this one sector. The complete db file
is intended to be published online upon completion in the JOWBR db.
