I agree with Barbara Mannlein. It is very difficult to read the digests without knowing what any given post in answering.

In the wake of the "Roots" genealogy craze, my grandfather told me his mother, Batya Kardonsky, had at least nine siblings.  My family has been in touch with the descendants of four them since leaving Ukraine, vicinity of Starykostyantinyv/Starokonstantinov, a century ago.  I am writing to see whether this message board can help me connect with the other five trunks:
 
I believe I recently identified the descendants of a fifth sibling, Pearl, who married Bernard Blumberg and went to Philadelphia.

Number 6, Uncle Morris, also went to Philadelphia, a seventh, Shima, went to Argentina, Uncle Reuben came to America, and Grandpa had no information at all on number nine, Mochta, which may mean Mordechai.  Grandpa thought  it possible that there were others.
 
Although I believe they are from (at least?) two wives (Pearl is about 30 years younger than my great-grandmother) their common father was David.
 
If there is anyone out there who is part of this clan, please contact me directly.

Thank you, Jon. We will review how to do this better, per your suggestions.
With regards to Hebrew characters - this new platform can now accept accented characters, along with multiple languages, etc. It was never a policy to NOT accept this in the past. We were simply limited by the technology.

The hashtag has the potential to be useful but needs to be visually presented better. The white in small letters on a light green background (#Sephardic #Galicia) makes it almost invisible to the eye. Larger letters and a black background would work (#Sephardic #Galicia).

Thank you for your feedback. There are a few ways to include a reply in messages:

Replying via your email to an individual message (i.e. not a digest): It depends on the setting within your email client. When clicking "reply" if your email client automatically includes the previous message, it will do so within this Discussion Group as well. If it does not, you can adjust your settings, or copy+paste the message manually. If you need help, please email support@..., include which email client you use, and we will do our best to help.

Replying via your email to a message within a digest: Beneath the message you are interested in replying to, there are the following options:
  1. View/Reply Online: If you click on View/Reply Online that will allow you to use the online message editor, and there is an option to include all/some of the message in your reply (see below).
  2. Reply To Group: If you click Reply to Group, you will open a new email in your email client, and you would have to copy+paste the message in order to include it. Note: The nice part of this platform is that you can easily view the entire thread of a conversation/topic by clicking: View Topic > View All Messages in Topic.  
Replying via the Web Forum (groups.JewishGen.org): There are two ways to do this:
  1. Using the online message editor, you can quote the entire message by clicking the far-left icon on the menu bar in the editor ("Quote Whole Post"). See the arrows in the screen-shot below.
  2. You can highlight a portion of the message before you hit the Reply button, and that section of the message will be quoted.

Thank you for your message. I appreciate your honesty and being willing to share your opinions.
Our previous system was preventing us from creating/maintaining a platform that would unite as many people around the world as possible. (See my earlier messages that outlined some of the causes, such as the requirement for Plain-Text, the inability to display images, accented characters, other languages, etc). We felt this new platform would be a major upgrade, but I do recognize that it's not perfect, and I am sorry for any incovneience this might be causing you. We will continue to try and improve this platform to the greatest extent possible and will appreciate your feedback and suggestions. In the meantime, if we can be of any help to you in terms of more specific training, etc., please email support@... and we will do our best to assist.

I wish more Lithuanian communities and the Lithuanian government would do this. I am fortunate that most of my family came over around 1900 and others were able to fight in the forest in WW II, though we lost some in the camps. Let's hope that Yuburg is not a one time event.

Really really dislike this new format.  Impossible to sort out the messages,  everything is on top of everything else.  I have no clue what belongs with what.  Why in the world would you do this?  I agree with all those who have complained.  Please revert back to something intelligible.

Hello

I wonder if anyone recognises people in this group photo taken at a well-known lake in modern day Slovakia? My father and sister (Ropschitz, Lvov) are recognisable to me but as it's such a great photo and so many faces are clear, I thought I would share it. 

I have another photo taken in a cafe in the same region I believe which I will also attach for the same reason.

I have lots of Bihari relatives in Australia. They  descend from  Marton Beckmann.(B.1899), who married my great aunt Rosalia Honig and changed his name to Bihari or Bihary (not sure when). Tibor Bihary was the paterfamilias (1914-1971). His descendants live mainly in Melbourne in Victoria.

Is that a help?

Underneath the message in the digest, however you get it,  you have a link to "view/reply online"

If you click on the "View/Reply Online" you may have to login. But, having done that, you have the message and the reply form open, and under the reply form,  you have  "see all X messages in topic".  Click that and you see all of them - very
convenient.

I think the issue Barbara was referencing is that the original post is not appearing in the digest. Although it appears if someone wants to comment on a reply, it is totally impractical to open a reply window just to see the original message.

This is interesting: On Windows 10, Edge does not give the correct right to left direction for this Hebrew text.
Google chrome does (for me - I haven't checked settings).
