I am a Jew who is an American, I hate to be the prevailer of bad thoughts
however it is becoming increasingly clear to me that what happened in Nazi
Germany could easily happen here. The old story of those who forget history
are destined to repeat it is unfortunately true. With the high holidays
approaching there are stories in the news about a school system in Cincinnati
where there are issues about taking off for the holidays. I currently am
fighting a battle with my employer (the Government of the state) to be allowed
to take off the holidays. So the moral is we should not become to complacent
with our situation even in this country. Remember that the German Jews all
thought they were all good Germans and look what happened to them. Perhaps I
am more negative because both of my parents are survivors.
I wish everyone at h-sig a happy and healthy New Year.

M. Feldman <mfeldman@...>

I am looking for information on my great grandparents, Israel and Esther
FRIEDMAN who lived in Detroit. Israel FRIEDMAN died June 23, 1904 and
his wife, Esther, died April 21, 1933. Both are buried in Beth Olam
Cemetery in Detroit (graves 0343 and 0344).

We know that they had a large family. The names of their sons were
Joseph (my grandfather), Max, Julius and William FRIEDMAN.
Unfortunately, we do not know the names of their other children.
According to the 1911 City of Detroit Directory, they lived on Adelaide
street.

My grandfather, Joseph FRIEDMAN, worked as a manager for a Vaudeville
theater in Detroit and was later an executive for Columbia Pictures in
Europe.

If anyone has information on them or their families, please get in touch
with me privately. Also, if anyone is visiting the cemetery or has
information on the cemetery, I would be appreciate learning what is
inscribed on their grave stones.

Thank you.

Beatrice DUKALL is a first cousin who for which we have had no contact for
almost fifty years. She was born in Los Angeles in 1923. Her mother was
Augusta Harris Dukall (died 1966) and her father was Max Dukall (died 1964).
In the 1920's and 30's, she lived in Los Angeles at 515 Oleander Drive. She
had one brother, Maurice, who died in 1965.

It is probable that she married and now has a different last name. The
State of California cannot find a death certificate for her parents and
I have checked the Hillside Cemetary for the name Dukall and they have
none buried there.

Anyone who may have information about Beatrice or suggestions on how I
might find her, please email me. Thank you.

Searching for information on Samuel Marcus Levy FLESCHER, born circa 1765.
Four children: Sarah, Johanna, Jonas, Phillipine. With the death, in
Cassel, of the unmarried Jonas Flescher (1798-1858), the surname Flescher
in this line died out. Hence, I am searching for Fleschers contemporary or
earlier with Samuel.

My descent is >from Sarah FLESCHER (born 1794), and husband Meyer Isaac
WALLACH who both died in 1830 in Cassel, Germany, leaving four children.

I have plenty of info on the descendancy, but not the ancestry. Help would
be greatly appreciated.

Hi everybody!

A couple of years ago, I made contact with a professional (or at least he
promoted himself as a professional researcher) who offered to provide
records >from the files of the Russian Secret Police (pre-1917). He did
some research for me at the time which did not seem to be going anywhere,
however, _Now_ I have found that his research might very well be helpful to
someone who I have recently met.

Unfortunately, I have misplaced his address and do not even remember his
name. I _do_ remember that others on Jewishgen at the time had used his
services and were not happy with the results and posted their
dissatisfaction online.

If _anyone_ remembers this fellow and his name and email address, would you
be so kind as to send it to me privately, as I have a feeling that this
individual would like to make contact with him.

Thanks and let me take this opportunity to wish all of my fellow
