On the death certificates for the 1918 flu, what did they label as the cause? My grandmother had a brother who died at that time. I never saw the death certificate, only burial records.
What would they say was the cause, for these deaths?
Abraham Schlissel, Detroit Mich.  EDER and SCHLISSEL was my family in Detroit. Thanks Gayle

My second cousin twice removed, Alice WOLOVITZ who is mentioned in Barry’s book about The Epidemic had Influenza with  Pneumococcic Meningitisas a contributory illness on her death certificate. (see below)

She was a nursing student in Philadelphia trying to treat patients

My great aunt died in the 1918 pandemic. Her death certificate reads “Influenza Complicated by Lobar Pneumonia.”

The death certificates of my maternal grandmother and my paternal grandfather said death from pneumonia due to the flu.  Remember, there were no antibiotics in 1918.

The 1918 death certificate of a relative in Cincinnati called it "la grippe".  Her doctor was related to her.

My great great grandfather's Chicago death certificate says "Chronic
bronchitis with asthma" with contributory cause "old age" -- he was
about 58, & had been treated by the doctor for 5 days. This may all be
correct, but I had always heard he died of that flu.
