The first thing a someone new to Jewish genealogy should do is read the
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) found on the JewishGen Web page at: http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/faq.html Since you are interested in family >from Minsk, you should be aware that the Mormon Church has filmed "some" of the vital records and revision lists in the Minsk Archives. To find out more about these films please read the JewishGen Info File found at: http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/by-rec.txt In addition, you should be aware that Vitaly Charny has posted a number of messages about surnames found in the various Minsk films. You can retrieve these messages by going to the JewishGen Discussion Group Archives found at: http://www.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.isa?jg~jgsys~archpop Once you are there type in Vitaly Charny and press start search. You will be presented with a list of messages with the Subject of the messages. If you see a subject of interest, just click on it and you will have the full text of the message.
