Bialystok Family tree #poland
Marya Pollack <marya23@...>
Dear All,
My great-grandparents Sam Pollack and Mary Stoljar came >from Bialystok and his parents Abraham Piora and Rachel >from Ciechanowiec. Abraham had two brothers, Shlomo (family shot by Nazis) and Hershel (family deported to Treblinka). Their parents were Noach Piora(o) and Gole-Gisha my great-great-great-grandparents. Sam and Mary went on to help found the Bialystoker Center as members of the bricklayers club--they both died there as well. My family's only survivors >from Bialystok who remained in Poland were Shlomo's sons Alter and Nathaniel who both settled in Israel after the war. They have pices written in the Ciechanowiec memorial book. Does anyone know of these families >from their own research? How do you obtain vital records >from Poland? How would I obtain records >from the Bialystoker Center? Thanks in advance, Marya Pollack (but it should be Pioro) STOJAR (STOLLER), POLLACK (PIORO or PIURA), LEVINE, >from Ciechanowiec and Bialystok MODERATOR'S NOTE: Jewish Records Indexing-Poland < www.jri-poland.org > has indexed records >from Bialystok. indexed all the available records covering the years 1835 through 1903. The 1904 records are currently being indexed. Records for 1905-1942 are protected by Poland's strict privacy laws and are not available to the public. For more information about vital records in Poland, please read Warren Blatt's JewishGen Infofile at http://www.jewishgen.org/InfoFiles/polandv.html . BIALYGen has developed a relationship with the Bialystoker Center in New York. With the Bialystoker Center permission, BIALYGen and Zchor.org has placed the English section of The Bialystoker Memorial Book online at http://www.zchor.org/bialystok/yizkor1.htm. We have also placed online a Surname index to this Memorial Book. You can lookup your surname at http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/bialygen/MemorialBook_Surnames.htm and then find the person's reference in the online Memorial Book. BIALYGen is also in the process of indexing the Bialystoker Center Yahrzeit cards. Read more about this project at http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/bialygen/YahrzeitCards.htm . BIALYGen also has a Surname index to the Bialystok Photo Album published by the Bialystoker Center in 1951. This can be found at http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/bialygen/Bialystok_Photo_Album_Surnames.htm . It is my understanding that the Bialystoker Center does not have any more genealogically relevant materials. Mark Halpern BIALYGen Coordinator
