Latvia SIG dues #courland #latvia

Dear Arlene:
Thanks for the message. I'm sending my dues to Mike today. I'm
researching LURIE, GREENSPOHN, FRIEDMAN, AND zIV. My grandfather, Abraham
Lurie was born in the Kursaniai area of Lithuania in 1860, married my
grandmother Nechama Greenspohn and had their seven kids (including my mother)
in Laizuva on the Lithuanian side of the river that separates Lithuania >from
Latvia. Then they lived in Vainoden and Libau and maybe in the Hasenpoth
area. All the children except one emmigrated to US oR South Africa before
World War I. and Abraham and Nechama returned to Lithuania in the Mazeikiai
area after World War I, where Abraham died in 1920 or 1921 and Nechama came
to the U.s. They always called themselves Courlanders. The one uncle of mine
who didn't emmigrate was Icik Lurie, a butcher, who was lost in the Holocaust
with his wife Chaya (don't know her last name) but born in Pilten, Latvia and
their five children. I think some of the children were born in Latvia.
Congratulations on your new position. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to talk
with you personally in SLC, but will contribute to your projects,
particularly in the areas mentioned. thank you.

If someone will tell me where and how much dues to send in for Courland and
Latvia SIGS. I will do so right away. Thanks. Will we ever get archives data
from Libau?

The Latvia SIG membership is $20 in the USA and $30 outside the USA.
Send to Treasurer Mike Getz

Thanks in advance. We need all the members possible.
As regards Libau data I have a possibility of getting passport applications
for those that left through Libau but these will come after the Dvinsk
lists which are being prepared.
We will keep you posted as we acquire data either through Latvia SIG or the
Courland Group.
