I am glad that the DNA discussion group is functioning. I received no mail
until this week, which puzzled me. I joined several months ago as I needed
DNA information for a press release I was writing for our local chapter for
our December program.
Those of you involved in programming for your local organization may be
interested in offering a similar program. Our meeting was a huge success,
with a turn out of over 100 members and guests.
Dr. Harry Ostrer, Director of Human Genetics Program, New York University
School of Medicine and a major researcher in the study "Genetic Analysis of
Jewish Origins" was our guest speaker at a breakfast meeting of the Jewish
Genealogical Society of Palm Beach County, December 10, 2000, Boca Raton, FL
.
He provided us with an overview of research to date concerning the genetic
analysis of Jewish origins, and detailed how DNA testing is used to link
family relationships when there are no records or the paper trail dead ends.
Those attending the meeting were offered the opportunity to participate as
volunteers in the genetic lineage research project conducted by New York
University and the University of Arizona. Participation included completing
a brief questionnaire that provides names and places of birth and residence
for 4-5 generations of the members’ families. In addition, a mouthwash
samples that can be used for extracting DNA >from the cells of the cheek
pouch were collected. This DNA will be analyzed for normal variants of known
Y chromosomal and mitochondrial markers using contemporary techniques.

I have tried to get through to the web sites given below. " Website

the same program. I was hoping Dr. Ostrer would be able to refer
us to someone at the UN. Buffalo who would be capable of presenting
such a program. Any suggestions ????
Thank You Muriel Selling
