Confirming Family Relationships #dna

Stephen Mednick <smednick@...>

I've been in contact with someone who's MEDNICK ancestors came >from the same
town as my Grandfather. I was supplied with a photograph that I forwarded
together with two photographs of my grandfather taken 20 years apart to a
friend of mine who has been in the photographic business for over 30 years.

I didn't tell him who was who in each of the 3 photographs but he correctly
identified the two photographs of my grandfather as being the same person. As
for the 3rd photograph he said there were enough common characteristics (eyes,
nose, lips) to strongly suggest that there is a family connection. As to
whether the two men are brothers remains to be seen.

I was wondering if DNA testing of close descendents of the two people could
conclusively establish as to whether or not the two people might have been
brothers. I'd welcome any comments on this and also if it was an option how
does one go about arranging DNA testing. Are there private facilities in the
US that carry out this type work for people walking off the street wanting
their own DNA testing done?

Thanks.
