Given name Sussmann or Susmann #germany
Alan Ehrlich
Hi,
Are there any equivalent names that tend to be associated with the given name (first name) Sussmann or Susmann? By way of explanation for my question, other examples of alternative given names include: Koppel/Kappel for Jacob Wolf(f) for Benjamin Heinemann for Chaim Meyer for Moses Aside >from Yiddish or regional spelling / transliteration variations... Is there any such equivalent name for Sus(s)mann? Thanks. Friendly regards, Alan Ehrlich, Geneva, Switzerland alan.ehrlich@...

Alan,
The name combinations you list are called kinuim (singular kinui) and this term has a legal meaning in halacha. Searching the Given names database for Germany for the name Sussman at http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/GivenNames Results in: Legal/Hebrew: Meshulam Zisman\Zusman Gender: M Legal Origin: Kings II 22:3 So Sussman is a kinui for Meshulam. Suss is German for sweet so Sussman = Sweet man. There are other related names like Seussel and Seusslein. And our favorite Dr. Seuss. Anyway, searching for kinui should give you more info.
