landsmanschaft database #galicia

JewishGen has an InfoFile on landsmanschaftn
<http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/landshaf.txt > but it is quite
out of date and incomplete. When a chairperson of a group dies,
there is quite frequently no replacement and the group becomes
inactive. It would be difficult trying to keep such a database
updated. Yad Vashem maintains a list of landsmanschaftn in Israel
with the last known contact person.

I find the easiest way to find out who to contact
for an organization is to telephone or write the cemetery that
has the organization's plot there. They can give you either the last
contact name, address and telephone number for
either an active or inactive organization.

Hope this helps.
