Let us remember the innocent Jewish children of Eger,
our kith and kin, who were taken away on 7 June 1944
and died a martyr's death.

Dear H-Siggers,

I am hoping that someone will be able to translate
the following text. It is
engraved on one of two Holocaust memorials in the
cemetery in Eger, Hungary.
Thank you. Sorry for no accent marks.

Someone can probably do better, but here is a
rendering

Let us remember
the dragged away and martyr death
of the Jewish children of Eger
with their priceless blood

H-Sig,

Thank you all for responding to my request for a translation of the text on
the Eger Holocaust Memorial. There are obviously several creative ways in
which one could interpret the text. Here are a few replys:

"let us remember
our dear innocent children of eger,
our dear blood,
who were dragged away on june 7th, 1944
and died martyrs' death"

"Let us remember our own blood,
the Jewish children of Eger
who were deported on June 7, 1944
and who died of martyr death."

"Let us remember
June 7th
martrys of Jewish Children >from Eger
who died a martyr's death
with their dear blood."

"We remember
The 1944 month of June 7th innocents
Who were taken (deported) away and died as martyrs
The Egri Jewish children
Our dear own blood"

"Let us remember the innocent Jewish children of Eger,
our kith and kin, who were taken away on 7 June 1944
and died a martyr's death."

Sincerely,
Jerry Zeisler

I've posted a partial birth record for my grandfather Berl Bernard
Sturtz. There is a paragraph on the bottom of the record in
handwritten Polish and I request a translation of just this
notation. It is on ViewMate at the following address ...

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.
Thank you very much.
