Auschwitz Victims from Gyor #hungary

Carol J. Robinson <caroljr@...>

We are looking for a volunteer or volunteers to transcribe a list of
Auschwitz Victims >from Gyor, which would then added to the Holocaust
database and the All Hungary Database. I've been told that there are 14
typed pages and 1 handwritten short page totaling approximately 3,100
names. The lists also include some other words, probably in Hungarian.
JewishGen would like the names typed using the diacritical marks and
will provide a transcription template.

Let me know if you would be willing to help transcribe this list.

Best regards,

Carol Robinson

Dear Carol,
We would like to help and volunteer, but we do not understand,
what are the "diacritical marks" and also what you mean on translation template.
We should like to call your attention also to an already existing list of the Gyor holocaust martyrs
which can be visited on the website: http://gyorjewish.org/main.htm. The Auschwitz Victims names
have to be a part of this list, and hence it might be desirable to be compared with.

Moderator VK: Diacritical marks are the marks such as an umlaut, tilde, circumflex, etc. that are placed over, under, alongside or attached to a letter to indicate pronunciation, stress, or other value. Most commonly used mail programs don't recognize letters with these markings and they appear encoded with "= " and a letter or number.

I am willing to help, but have never been able to
fathom how to get the diacritical marks. I know
Hungarian, so I might be able to make out the extra
words. Is this different >from the list on the
gyorjewish website?

Carol,
The typed pages could be scanned depending upon the quality. That would
speed things up a bit.

Most wordprocessors (Word and Worperfect aat least anyway) allow you to
type in the diacritical marks >from their insert then symbol menu.

Dear Kitty,
A good refernce source for the holocaust victims by communities
is the "Yizkor Book Database" of the JewishGen.
There one can find a memorial book book about the Jews of Papa edited by
Yehuda Gyula Lang, (written in Hungarian):
"A papai zsidosag emlekkonyve," Tel Aviv, 1974.
An English version or excert of the book can be found in the homepage:
http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/Papa/Papa.html

I have read through this email, and looked at the list of Victims.
Is there any one out there, that has any records or connections to the
