Warsaw Ghetto Uprising #general
Frieda Libaw <fbl2@...>
The doomed but heroic uprising against the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto is
history. Is there any record of the individuals who participated in it or who played a leading part in the uprising? My mother, who attended a Warsaw memorial service for the ghetto victims in 1964, was honored as the oldest living relative of one of the heroes of the uprising. I think it was her cousin, Itzrock Lachs (or Laks) but I would like some source through which I might verify this. Can anyone recommend such a source? Thanks in advance. Frieda Libaw

Founded in 1949 by the Jewish Fighters of WWII, Kibbutz Lohamei Hagetaot (The Ghetto Fighters Kibutz) probably have an information you are looking for. Visit information about the Kibbutz at: http://www.gfh.org.il/english/kibutz/kibutz.htm There are numerous memoirs, diaries and publications, just to mentioned few such as by Zivia Lubetkin, Leon Najberg, Yitzhak (Antek) Zuckierman, Mordechai Anielewicz letter, Ignacy Szwarzbrat, Hadassa Talmon, Tuvia Borzykowski, Israel Gutman, Szmuel Krakowski and several others. kilometers north of the Gaza Strip, was founded by Polish Jews, and is named in honor of Mordechai Anielewicz, the leader of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. The kibbutz has a museum devoted to the 1948 siege of the kibbutz and the holocaust in general, and, I believe, the Warsaw Ghetto uprising in particular. Sorry, I don't remember details; it's been many years since I was there. They may have specifics you're looking for. I do not know what research facilities may be available, and I don't know if they have a web site. I believe the kibbutz address is: Kibbutz Yad Mordechai, D.N. (stands for rural post) Ashkelon, Israel. Hope that might help. Glenda Rubin San Francisco Bay Area Glenda.Rubin@Juno.com On 4 Apr 1999 19:59:42 GMT plutsk@aol.com (Plutsk) writes:
