JGenrs,

My relatives >from many generations ago were suppose to have been involved
with salt mines. I am assuming it was Poland since the more recent
generations were >from Poland. Does anyone know if there are/were salt mines
in Poland and where they were located?

Thanks.

The main and widely known Poland's salt main is called Wieliczka near
Krako'w. It's an amazing place, were underground made sculptures, including
small church are carved in a salt rocks. There are several smaller salt
mines in the same area.

There are salt mines just outside of Karkow in the town of Wieliczka.
These slat mines are world famous for a variety of sculptures made by
the minors over the years in the salt walls.

My great grandfather, Shlomo Mendel Kimelheim, was killed in the
(abt.1895) cave-in of a salt mine in the Drohobych area, which
was in Galicia but near Poland.
